Earns its place for clearing unused empties and materials while preserving data still in use, including image data.
CleanD is a Blender add-on for keeping scenes organized and optimized without accidentally deleting data you still need. It handles two cleanup jobs: removing unused empty objects and clearing out unused materials, including materials not assigned to any object.
The preservation logic is central to how it works. When deleting empties, it keeps any that are referenced in modifiers, used by other add-ons, or acting as parents for other objects. Smart Material Cleanup follows the same principle, removing only materials that aren't actively used while leaving assigned ones intact. Image data is also preserved — earlier versions could unintentionally remove image data when cleaning empties, and that issue has been fixed.
Version 2.1 improved stability when detecting which empties are used in modifiers, parenting, and third-party add-ons, and added a shortcut: press Ctrl + Alt + X anytime in the 3D View after enabling the add-on. CleanD works with Blender 3.0 through 4.5 and is suited to scene optimization before rendering or exporting.
Cleand is best for scene optimization before rendering or exporting.
Cleand is completely free to download and use.
CleanD works with Blender versions 3.0 through 4.5, covering a broad span of recent releases. The add-on focuses on removing unused empties and materials while keeping data that is still in use, so it fits cleanup routines across those versions. It is distributed under the GPL license. For the most current version details and any changes beyond what is noted here, check the developer's page before installing.
CleanD adds a shortcut you can use anytime in the 3D View. After enabling the add-on, press Ctrl + Alt + X to run it. This shortcut arrived in version 2.1, alongside improved stability when detecting which empties are used in modifiers, parenting, and third-party add-ons. Enabling the add-on first is required, after which the shortcut is available anytime you are working in the 3D View.
CleanD preserves your image data when cleaning unused empties. In earlier versions, deleting unused empties could unintentionally remove image data, but that issue has been fixed and images are no longer affected during cleanup. The add-on also improved stability when detecting which empties are actually used in modifiers, parenting, and third-party add-ons, so objects still in use stay put while only genuinely unused empties are removed.
CleanD is listed as free in this catalog and is distributed under the GPL license. For current licensing terms and any pricing details, check the developer's page before downloading. The add-on covers Blender versions 3.0 through 4.5 and handles removal of unused empties and materials while keeping data that is still in use, so you can evaluate whether it fits your cleanup workflow.
