Earns its place in the superhive library by combining color extraction, threshold filtering, palette building, and material application into a single Blender panel.
Color Extractor is a Blender add-on from Animation Store for extracting, managing, combining, and applying colors from images inside Blender. Using the eyedropper tool, you can pull colors from an image, and a one-click option automatically extracts all colors from a picture while filtering out duplicates. The sampling strategy can be customized to gather unique colors, and you can identify the numbers of the colors that make up a picture.
Extracted colors sit in a customizable list with selection checkboxes and color swatches. A threshold-based filter removes duplicate or similar colors, and unwanted entries clear with a single click. Multiple selected colors can be combined into one by averaging their RGBA values, and a separate favorites list keeps colors on hand for reuse. Colors apply as materials to the active object, and one-click operators assign random colors to selected objects or to selected faces in edit mode.
The add-on installs through Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, and its panel appears at Properties > Scene > Color Extractor as well as in the image editor and viewport. A demo video is available.
Color Extractor is best for texture artists pulling dominant colors from reference images, 3D modelers assigning colors during scene setup, designers building palette libraries, and educators demonstrating color theory.
Color Extractor is completely free to download and use.
Color Extractor installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the add-on file, then open Blender and go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons. Click the Install button and select the downloaded file. Once it is installed, the Color Extractor panel becomes available in the image editor and the viewport window, and it can also be reached through Properties > Scene > Color Extractor. From there you have access to the extraction, management, combination, and application features.
Color Extractor adds its panel in a few places within Blender's interface. The main panel is found under Properties > Scene > Color Extractor, and the add-on also makes its features available in the image editor and the viewport window. This placement puts color extraction, the color list, combining, favorites, and material application within reach while you work, and the organized layout keeps the extraction and application tools accessible from the panel.
Color Extractor includes one-click operators for applying random colors. In edit mode, you can apply random colors to all the selected faces with a single click, and you can also apply random colors to all selected objects with one click. Alongside these random operators, the add-on can apply selected or combined colors as materials to the active object, so you can move between random assignment and deliberate color choices depending on the task at hand.
Color Extractor combines colors by averaging their RGBA values. You select multiple colors from the list, and the add-on merges them into a single new color based on that average. The combined result can then be applied as a material to the active object. This works together with the threshold-based filtering that removes duplicate or similar colors and with the favorites list, so combined colors can be saved for quick reuse across a project.
Color Extractor is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms, along with the documentation and the available demo video, check the developer's page from Animation Store. The add-on covers color extraction from images, list management, threshold-based filtering, combining colors by averaging their values, a favorites list, and applying colors as materials, including one-click random color operators for selected objects and faces.
