Cube Confabulator earns its spot in the superhive library as a lighthearted take on a task every Blender user knows, clearing the default cube, with fifty ready-made variations and room to add your own.
Cube Confabulator is a Blender addon that provides fifty distinct methods, called Confabs, for deleting, transforming and manipulating the default cube. It's built as a break from the usual X-then-delete routine, turning the removal of that default cube into something more varied.
Running a Confab is straightforward: start a new project, open the Cube Confabulator panel and press one of the buttons. Each Confab requires a default cube to exist, meaning an object named 'Cube' with no transformations applied. Documentation is included to walk through the process.
Beyond the built-in options, you can create your own Confabs by selecting target objects, choosing a name and frame duration, and deciding whether a new cube should be added afterwards, then converting the selection. Confabs posted to the addon's Reddit page have a chance of being added to the main addon. The base version ships with pre-baked fluid simulation caches for applicable Confabs, and a smaller download lets you bake those simulations yourself after installation instead.
Cube Confabulator is best for blender users who want a playful alternative to the standard X-then-delete routine for the default cube.
Cube Confabulator is completely free to download and use.
Cube Confabulator is compatible with Blender 2.8 and later, with listed support spanning 2.8, 2.81, 2.82, 2.83, 2.9, 2.91, 2.92, 2.93 and the 3.x line up through 3.6. If you're running any of these versions, the addon fits your setup. For confirmation on newer Blender releases, check the developer's page, since the stated version list reflects what's provided for this release rather than every future build.
Cube Confabulator needs a default cube present for a Confab to run, specifically an object named 'Cube' with no transformations applied. To use it, start a new project, open the Cube Confabulator panel and press one of the Confab buttons. Because each Confab acts on that default cube, beginning from a fresh scene is the simplest way to make sure the conditions are met before you trigger one of the fifty options.
Cube Confabulator lets you build custom Confabs alongside the fifty built-in ones. Select all your target objects, choose a name, set a frame duration, decide whether a new cube should be added afterwards, then hit Convert selected to Confab. If you post your creations to the addon's Reddit page, there's a chance they'll be included in the main addon. Further detail is covered in the documentation and the demo video available for the addon.
Cube Confabulator comes in two downloads. The base version is 314MB and ships with pre-baked fluid simulation caches for applicable Confabs, so those effects are ready immediately. The smaller download is 50MB and is identical to the base version but without the fluid simulations pre-cached; you can bake those simulations yourself after installation if you'd rather keep the download small. Both give you the same set of fifty Confabs.
Cube Confabulator is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change, so check the developer's page for the current details before downloading. The addon is distributed under the GPL license and is offered either as a base version with pre-baked fluid caches or as a smaller download without them. Either way you get the full set of fifty Confabs plus the ability to save your own.
