Why we like it

CURVEmachine earns its place in the superhive library for bringing MESHmachine-style non-destructive editing to curves, with the Blendulate tool at its core.

What is Curvemachine?

CURVEmachine is an add-on from MACHIN3 that aims to make POLY and NURBS curve editing in Blender more flexible. It can be seen as MESHmachine's little brother, and like MESHmachine's fillet toolset, it makes working with curve radii, arcs and non-circular blends essentially non-destructive.

The main tool behind this is Blendulate, which lets you create curve radii and arcs (or non-circular blends), change existing ones, or merge them back to a single point. Version 1.4.2 supports Blender 4.2 LTS through 5.1.

Beyond Blendulate, CURVEmachine adds tools such as Flick Symmetrize and Knife, along with a range of others. You can add a single-point poly curve at the cursor to start extruding, slide a curve point along its previous or next segment, merge points across two splines, cut or split splines with the knife, shuffle a spline's gap, reverse a spline's direction, and convert between POLY and NURBS splines. It is released under the GPL license.

Who is Curvemachine best for?

Curvemachine is best for blender artists editing POLY and NURBS curves who want non-destructive control over radii, arcs and non-circular blends.

How much does Curvemachine cost?

Curvemachine is completely free to download and use.

Key features

  • Blendulate tool to create, edit or undo curve radii, arcs and non-circular blends
  • Add a single-point poly curve at the cursor's location to quickly start extruding
  • Flick Symmetrize a spline across its curve object's origin or across the cursor
  • Knife cut curve points into splines, or split splines into multiple
  • Merge to the last selected point or the center of the selection, including across two splines
  • Slide a curve point along its previous or next segment, and reverse a spline's direction
  • Adjust curve thickness, extrusion and resolution, toggle spline cyclicity, and convert POLY and NURBS splines

Frequently asked questions

Does CURVEmachine work with Blender 5.1?

CURVEmachine version 1.4.2 supports Blender 4.2 LTS through 5.1, so it runs across that range of releases including Blender 5.1. If you are on a version earlier than 4.2, check the developer's page for details before installing. The add-on covers POLY and NURBS curve editing within Blender, and staying inside the stated version range keeps its tools working as intended. For the latest compatibility information and any updates beyond 1.4.2, the developer's documentation and download page are the best places to confirm.

What does the Blendulate tool in CURVEmachine do?

CURVEmachine's Blendulate tool is the main feature behind its non-destructive curve editing. It lets you create curve radii and arcs, or non-circular blends, change existing ones, and merge them back to a single point again. This is what makes working with curve radii, arcs and non-circular blends essentially non-destructive, in a similar spirit to MESHmachine's fillet toolset. Alongside Blendulate, the add-on includes further tools such as Flick Symmetrize and Knife for shaping and cutting splines.

Is CURVEmachine free to download?

CURVEmachine is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so for the current terms it is best to check MACHIN3's own page. The add-on is released under the GPL license, and MACHIN3's page is also where you can find the documentation, FAQ and support links. Reviewing those before adding it to your Blender setup will give you the most accurate picture of how the tool is offered.

Can CURVEmachine convert between POLY and NURBS splines?

CURVEmachine can convert POLY and NURBS splines, so you can switch splines between those two types as part of your editing. This sits alongside its other spline tools, such as adjusting curve thickness, extrusion and resolution, toggling spline cyclicity, and interpolating curve point thickness and tilt. Together these give you control over both the type and the shaping of curves in Blender, and they complement the Blendulate, Flick Symmetrize and Knife tools that make up the rest of the add-on.
