Round Inset stands out in the superhive library for insetting faces while keeping their original round corners, plus an option that guards against corner overlap. It has gathered a small set of user ratings on its source listing.
Round Inset insets a selected face while keeping 100% of its original round corners, and it handles unusual shapes as well. After the inset, you can bevel the result to create a round surface.
To use it, switch to Blender's Edit mode, select a face, right-click in the 3D viewport, and choose Round Inset at the bottom of the context menu. The tool insets the face, then exposes its settings in the left-bottom menu. Inset Size sets the amount of inset, Size Threshold defines which parts stay as corners and which long edges shrink, Scale of corners adjusts corner shape, and Merge Vertices auto-merges collapsed vertices at an adjustable Merge Distance.
A Prevent overlap option keeps corners from overlapping, and it works on faces with or without round corners — for faces without round corners, set the Threshold to zero. The tool currently operates on individual faces rather than connected regions. It's compatible with Blender 2.83 through 5.1 and is distributed as an add-on under a GPL license.
Round Inset is best for blender modelers who need to inset individual faces while preserving rounded corners and controlling corner overlap.
Round Inset is completely free to download and use.
Round Inset lists compatibility with Blender 2.83 through 5.1 and is provided as an add-on extension under a GPL license. It's used from within Blender's Edit mode, where you right-click in the 3D viewport to run it. If you're on a version within that range, it should load. The most recent listed release is version 2.1.1, which fixed an installation issue. For versions outside the stated range, or to confirm the latest release, check the developer's page at kushirocg.com before installing.
Round Inset works from Blender's Edit mode: select a face, right-click in the 3D viewport, and choose Round Inset at the bottom of the pop-up context menu. The tool insets the selected face, then you can adjust the settings in the left-bottom menu. These include Inset Size for the amount of inset, Size Threshold for defining corners versus long edges, Scale of corners for corner shape, and Merge Vertices with a Merge Distance for combining collapsed vertices.
Round Inset includes a Prevent overlap option that tries to protect corners from overlapping when you inset a face. This works for any face, including ones without round corners — for those, just run the tool and set the Threshold parameter to zero. The prevent-overlap feature was added in version 2.0.0. Keep in mind the tool currently operates on individual faces, not connected regions yet.
Round Inset is listed as free here in the catalog. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so check the developer's page at kushirocg.com for the current terms. The tool is distributed as a Blender add-on extension under a GPL license, and its creator is noted as a Blender Development Fund contributor. It has also collected a small set of user ratings on its source listing.
