Earns its place for bridging Blender modeling and sheet-based fabrication: it flattens parts, estimates material, nests panels, and exports to CAD-ready DXF.
Disassembler And Nesting is a Blender addon aimed at users who want to build a design as a physical object. It flattens and sorts the separate components of something like a cabinet into the XY plane. Parts must be separate objects with their scale and rotation applied; selecting them and pressing Disassemble duplicates and flattens them. Objects of the same size share a color, each row shares a thickness, and everything is sorted by width and length.
A Nesting option arranges the laid-out panels onto a sheet whose size can be set in a popup after nesting, taking saw thickness into account. Extra options calculate the volume and mass of the selected objects, using a wood specific weight of roughly 600 kg/m³, along with the combined surface area, which helps when estimating how much wood a product needs.
Export the selected objects as CSV for a spreadsheet, or as DXF for CAD software such as QCad or LibreCAD, with an adjustable scale that controls enlargement or reduction. The addon is accessed from the N-panel under the Edit menu and includes documentation.
Disassembler And Nesting is best for blender users preparing designs like cabinets or furniture for physical fabrication and cutting from sheet material.
Disassembler And Nesting is completely free to download and use.
Disassembler And Nesting installs like a standard Blender addon. Download the zip file and, without extracting it, open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons and install it there. After installation, find 'Disassemble' in the list and activate it. Once active, the addon is accessed from the N-panel under the Edit menu, where the main menu lists all available actions. The black box in that menu shows the size and name of each selected object.
Disassembler And Nesting exports the selected objects in two formats. CSV output opens in a spreadsheet, while DXF export sends the components to CAD software such as QCad or LibreCAD for further editing, which makes it easier to add dimensions. The DXF export includes an adjustable scale that determines how much everything is enlarged or reduced on export. Both options are found in the addon's Export section.
Disassembler And Nesting requires all parts to be separate objects before flattening. It also expects the scale and rotation of those objects to have been applied. With that done, select the desired objects and press Disassemble; the objects are duplicated and flattened in the XY plane. Objects of the same size are given the same color, each row shares the same thickness, and everything is sorted by width and length.
Disassembler And Nesting includes a Nesting option that arranges the panels laid out by the Disassembler onto a sheet. After nesting, a popup lets you adjust the sheet size, and the saw thickness is taken into account and can be set. Parts are nested in the direction they lie after disassembling, so if you need a different orientation you must rotate them first before nesting.
Disassembler And Nesting is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any purchase details, check the developer's page from Tiemen's addons, since terms can change over time. The download comes as a zip file that you install directly in Blender's Add-ons preferences without extracting it first. Documentation is also included to help you get started with the disassemble, nesting and export tools.
