Why we like it

Stands out in the superhive library because it leans on Colmap, a structure-from-motion package that also powers well-known photogrammetry and Gaussian splatting tools like Postshot, to solve camera motion with minimal manual setup.

What is Easy Camera Tracker?

Camera tracking, or matchmoving, means extracting camera movement from a video so 3D elements can be added to a shot. Done manually in Blender this is time consuming. Easy Camera Tracker handles it automatically in a few clicks, and tracking runs in the background so you can keep working while it solves.

Once a shot is tracked, the addon creates an animated camera that moves with the video, builds an image sequence set as the camera background, generates a point cloud, and matches render settings to the footage (resolution, fps and color profile). Camera orientation can be set easily, and a floor can be generated with the video projected onto it. Object tracking is available through an implementation of the Polychase addon.

Under the hood it uses Colmap, an open-source structure-from-motion package in development since 2016. It can also export an undistorted image sequence for compositing, with the option to reapply the original distortion later, track zoom shots, and exposes full manual tracking settings.

Who is Easy Camera Tracker best for?

Easy Camera Tracker is best for blender artists who need to matchmove video footage and set up a tracked 3D scene automatically.

How much does Easy Camera Tracker cost?

Easy Camera Tracker is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Easy Camera Tracker work with Blender 5.1?

Easy Camera Tracker requires Blender 4.3 or newer and is listed as compatible with Blender 5.1, so recent Blender releases are covered. For tracking speed the developer recommends a fast CPU and lots of RAM, and a fast GPU makes tracking faster still. Performance varies with the shot and your hardware, so heavier footage on a modest machine will take longer to solve. It's worth confirming current version support on the developer's page before installing to a specific Blender build.

Can I run Easy Camera Tracker on a Mac?

Easy Camera Tracker runs on Windows 10 and 11, or macOS 13 and later. On Mac the addon supports Apple Silicon M-series processors only and does not work on Intel-based Macs, so an older Intel MacBook or iMac won't be able to run it. Windows users on version 10 or 11 are covered without that restriction. If you're unsure whether your machine qualifies, check your processor type and the developer's page for the latest system details.

Do I need an Nvidia GPU for Easy Camera Tracker?

Easy Camera Tracker benefits from a fast GPU for quicker tracking, while a fast CPU and plenty of RAM also help. An Nvidia GPU is specifically required for the optional dense point cloud creation, which is a Windows-only feature. So for standard automatic tracking a capable CPU is the main factor, whereas the dense point cloud step depends on having Nvidia hardware on Windows. See the developer's page for hardware guidance if you plan to use that particular feature.

What kind of video works best with Easy Camera Tracker?

Easy Camera Tracker needs footage with a moving camera, at least some parallax, and trackable detail rather than a clear sky or bare scene. It works best with as little as possible of moving objects like people, water or cars, motion blur, depth of field, and reflective or transparent surfaces. Shots with only a rotating camera can still be solved using the 'only rotate' feature, which uses Blender's internal motion tracker. Videos with some glossy objects or blur will often track fine, but keeping these tips in mind gives the best results.

Is Easy Camera Tracker free?

Easy Camera Tracker is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so for the current terms and any download details it's best to check the developer's page directly. The addon lists documentation among its features, which is also worth reviewing before you start. Confirming on the developer's page ensures you have accurate, up-to-date licensing information before installing it into your Blender setup.
