Why we like it

Easylight earns its place in the superhive library by consolidating Blender lighting into one add-on: IES-ready lights, drag-and-drop light groups, and per-light adjustments. It covers Blender versions from 2.91 through 4.0 and ships under the GPL license.

What is Easylight?

Easylight, developed by CGoutset, is a Blender add-on built to simplify the lighting process. It lets you add IES-ready lights and create, edit, and manage light groups, and it's ready for both the Cycles and Eevee render engines.

The light group system lets you control power, toggle groups on and off, and set color and light temperature across multiple lights at once, with changes applying to every light in the group. Mesh objects using emission materials can be included too. Because the management system is based on Blender's default collection system, you can drag and drop, select, move, or delete lights, and pull in lights that weren't created with EasyLight.

The IES Light Manager lets you add your IES texture library, generate a preview for each file, and apply them in one click, alongside quick-add IES lights and a one-click favorite setup. A frame-based animation system handles group toggle, power, and color settings and is still in development. Easylight runs on Windows only, and IES textures work in Cycles.

Who is Easylight best for?

Easylight is best for blender artists on Windows who manage scene lighting in Cycles or Eevee and rely on IES textures in Cycles.

How much does Easylight cost?

Easylight is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does Easylight support?

Easylight is listed for a wide range of Blender releases, covering 2.91, 2.92, and 2.93, the 3.0 through 3.6 series, and 4.0. That span reaches across several years of Blender, so it fits both older project files and more recent builds within that range. The add-on is released under the GPL license. For confirmation of the latest supported version and any changes beyond 4.0, check CGoutset's website, since compatibility can shift as Blender continues to update.

Does Easylight work with Eevee as well as Cycles?

Easylight is ready for both Cycles and Eevee, so you can build and manage light groups in either render engine. One caveat applies: IES textures work in Cycles only and do not function in Eevee. If your workflow depends on IES lighting, plan to render in Cycles. You can still use Easylight with Blender's default lights in Eevee, and the light group, management, and animation tools work regardless of which engine you pick for your scene.

Does Easylight run on macOS or Linux?

Easylight works on Windows OS only, so macOS and Linux are not supported according to the current listing. On Windows you get the full feature set, including light groups, the light management system, the IES Light Manager and preview generator, quick-add lights, the favorite light setup, and the animation system. For any updates on platform support or questions about your setup, reach out through CGoutset's website or Discord server before installing.

Is Easylight free to use?

Easylight is listed as free in this catalog, though licensing and availability can change over time. The add-on is released under the GPL license, which governs how it can be used and modified. For the current terms and any options the developer offers, check CGoutset's website directly. That's also where you'll find the documentation, Discord server, and YouTube channel for setup help and further support.
