EdgeFlowDraw earns its place in the Blender extensions library for offering something between block-out and point modelling, putting edgeflow and silhouette in focus from the first stroke.
EdgeFlowDraw lets you draw a path of quads with the mouse in Blender. The main goal is to let 3D artists focus on edgeflow from the start of modelling, as an approach between block-out modelling (starting with a cube or sphere for a basic shape) and point modelling (extruding vertices one-by-one). The focus is on defining edgeflow and silhouette first, which can help avoid or ease the planning of edge poles with more than five edges connected.
To use it, place your mouse cursor in the 3D Viewport and press F3, then type "EdgeFlowDraw Tool". This creates a mesh around your mouse cursor at the depth of the 3D cursor, and a path of quads follows as you draw freehand. You can resize quads with the scrollwheel, undo the last quad with RMB, orbit left or right by holding MMB and moving, finish with LMB, and cancel with ESC. There is no zoom in/out feature for now, and orbiting is limited to left/right.
Version 2.1.2 fixed the ability to start the tool without requiring Blender's "Developer Extras" option enabled. EdgeFlowDraw is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.
EdgeFlowDraw is best for modelling workflows where you want to define edgeflow and silhouette first, rather than starting with block-out or point modelling.
EdgeFlowDraw is completely free to download and use.
EdgeFlowDraw lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it should run on current LTS builds and later releases. It installs as an Add Mesh extension and requires no special permissions. The most recent version is 2.1.2, published in April 2026, with a 22.9 KB download size. For the latest compatibility details and any reported issues, check the developer's page on GitHub, where the project tracks bugs and version history.
EdgeFlowDraw starts by placing your mouse cursor in the 3D Viewport and pressing the F3 key, then typing "EdgeFlowDraw Tool" or hitting Enter if you've run it recently. This creates a mesh around your mouse cursor at the depth of the 3D cursor. From there you draw the edgeflow path freehand, resize quads with the scrollwheel, undo the last quad with RMB, orbit left or right by holding MMB, finish with LMB, and cancel with ESC.
EdgeFlowDraw is listed as free in this catalog and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The extension requires no special permissions to install. Version 2.1.2 was published in April 2026 with a 22.9 KB download size, and the project is maintained on GitHub, where issues can also be reported. EdgeFlowDraw has no zoom in/out feature for now, and orbiting is limited to left or right by holding MMB and moving the mouse. Within those limits you can still draw a full path of quads, resize them with the scrollwheel at any point including before you start the path, undo the last quad with RMB, finish with LMB, and cancel with ESC. Check the developer's page for any updates to these controls.
