A focused single-purpose utility from CGjazziQ, who also publish UV-Outfit, Wlock Pro and B-Rename for Blender.
EMG (Edit Mode Guard) is an addon for Blender 2.8x from the team at CGjazziQ. It watches for the TAB button and, if pressed while working on a heavily polygonal model — for example one with a million vertices — displays a warning window. From that window you choose one of two options: cancel the action or continue into edit mode.
The developer notes it as particularly handy during sculpting, where accidentally entering edit mode on a dense mesh can interrupt work. EMG watches only for the TAB button and does not work with the PIE menu, so those limitations are worth keeping in mind.
CGjazziQ maintains several other Blender addons, including UV-Outfit Tile-displace and Merge, Wlock Pro for locking 3D view rotation, and B-Rename for speeding up object renaming for baking. EMG is documented and listed here as free, with a demo video available.
Emg (Edit Mode Guard) is best for blender 2.8x users working on dense, high-poly models who want a safeguard against accidentally entering edit mode via TAB.
Emg (Edit Mode Guard) is completely free to download and use.
EMG (Edit Mode Guard) is presented as an addon for Blender 2.8x, and its listed Blender version is 2.8. If you work on a heavily polygonal model in that version and press TAB by accident, the addon shows a warning window with the option to cancel or continue. Because it targets the 2.8x series, check the developer's page for details on compatibility with other Blender releases before installing.
EMG (Edit Mode Guard) watches only for the TAB button, and the developer states it does not work with the PIE menu. So if you enter edit mode through a PIE menu rather than by pressing TAB, the warning window will not appear. Keep this in mind if your workflow relies on PIE menus for mode switching, since the guard is specifically tied to the TAB key press.
EMG (Edit Mode Guard) is listed as free in this catalog and is described as royalty free. For current licensing terms and any details on how the addon may be used, visit the developer's page. The addon also comes with documentation, and a demo video is available if you want to see more before downloading and adding it to your Blender setup.
