Why we like it

Export Alias earns its place in the superhive library as a dedicated bridge from Blender to Autodesk Alias, carrying SubD and mesh geometry, shaders, and layers with fine-grained export controls.

What is Export Alias?

Export Alias, developed by Digital Sculptors, is a Blender add-on for transferring data from Blender to Autodesk Alias. Mesh objects move across as SubD or Mesh objects, materials become shaders, and collections become layers. If an object carries a SubD modifier it transfers as an Alias SubD object; otherwise it is saved as an Alias Mesh object.

Export is triggered from File > Export > ExportAlias. The exporter offers options for Selected Only, Batch mode (one Alias file per object), Up and Forward axis, and Apply Modifiers. A Disable Booleans option lets you export tool objects separately for trimming inside Alias. Because Alias does not support non-manifold subdivision geometry, Separate Non-manifold and Apply Mirror options are provided.

It supports Alias 2024.1 up to 2026.1.1, with a separate ExportAlias_2027 add-on for Alias 2027.0.1 and newer. It requires Blender 3.0 or above and Windows 10/11 64bit with VC++ runtime 2019 or above. Support for Blender materials is limited.

Who is Export Alias best for?

Export Alias is best for blender users who need to move meshes, materials, and collections into Autodesk Alias.

How much does Export Alias cost?

Export Alias is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

What Alias versions does Export Alias support?

Export Alias works with Autodesk Alias 2024.1 up to 2026.1.1. For Alias 2027.0.1 and newer, you use the separate ExportAlias_2027 add-on, which also needs an active internet connection. The 2027 version requires correct licensing information in its add-on preferences, including a product key, version string, license type, and license path, and it will fail if those values are wrong. Autodesk Alias Support can confirm the correct values for your setup.

How do I install Export Alias in Blender?

Export Alias installs from the downloaded ExportAlias_win_x64.zip file. Open Edit > Preferences > Install and choose the downloaded ZIP, and do not unzip the file before installing. On Blender 4.2 and newer, you can drag and drop the ZIP directly into Blender instead. Once installed, you export by selecting the objects you want and choosing File > Export > ExportAlias, which carries meshes, materials, and collections into Alias.

What Blender version and OS does Export Alias need?

Export Alias requires Blender 3.0 or above and runs on Windows 10 or 11 64bit with VC++ runtime 2019 or above. On the Alias side it supports versions 2024.1 up to 2026.1.1, or the ExportAlias_2027 add-on for 2027.0.1 and newer. Note that there should be only one subdiv modifier and it should be last in the stack; with multiple subdiv modifiers or a subdiv that is not last, the output shape may not match, so apply the earlier ones manually.

How does Export Alias handle non-manifold subdivision geometry?

Export Alias provides two options because Alias does not support non-manifold subdivision geometry. Separate Non-manifold automatically splits objects by loose parts, and Apply Mirror is used alongside it to apply the mirror modifier before splitting. Both are off by default, and enabling them changes the file content, so save your file first. Objects with a mirror modifier transfer as non-manifold subdivs unless the mirror is applied before splitting, which the Apply Mirror option handles automatically.

Is Export Alias free?

Export Alias is listed as free here in the catalog. For current licensing terms, check the developer's page from Digital Sculptors. Note that the ExportAlias_2027 version, used for Alias 2027.0.1 and newer, needs correct licensing information entered in its add-on preferences and an active internet connection to work, and it will fail if the product key, version, license type, or license path are not set correctly.
