Fill Mesh earns its place in the Blender extensions library for gathering several hole-filling techniques, from Grid Fill and Hole Fill to Contextual Create, into one sidebar panel, with automatic detection that skips manual edge selection.
Fill Mesh is a Blender add-on for repairing complex and irregular 3D models by automatically detecting and filling holes. It identifies gaps in geometry and lets you close specific areas or seal an entire mesh. It's aimed at preparing scanned data, remeshed models, and sculpted objects for watertight geometry.
The add-on uses techniques like Grid Fill, Hole Fill, and Contextual Create, alongside a Simple Bridge Fill option for manual edge selection. Repair Notches fills missing border quads to turn an irregular hole into a grid-fillable boundary, Fill Shape reconstructs missing geometry on curved and organic surfaces, and Simple Quad Fill extends open boundaries with quad-based topology. Snap Vertex moves selected vertices toward a target group, while Merge Vertex Group fuses nearby vertices within a set distance.
Advanced options include Curvature Adaptation, Smart Vertex Distribution, and Progressive Smoothing. You can adjust fill density or apply smoothing before validating the corrections to integrate the new geometry. Fill Mesh is accessed in the N sidebar under the Fill Mesh tab and is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer.
Fill Mesh is best for preparing scanned data, remeshed models, and sculpted objects for watertight geometry, on both organic and hard-surface meshes.
Fill Mesh is completely free to download and use.
Fill Mesh is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so it runs on current long-term-support builds and later releases. It's distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and the extension does not require any special permissions to run. If you're working on an earlier Blender version, check the developer's page to confirm whether an older build is available before installing, since the listed compatibility starts at 4.2 LTS.
Fill Mesh installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the ZIP file, open Blender, and go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons. Click Install, select the ZIP file, and click Install Add-on, then enable the add-on by checking its box. Once enabled, you'll find Fill Mesh in the N sidebar under the Fill Mesh tab, where the filling options are grouped. From there you select a mesh that contains holes and choose a filling option to apply.
Fill Mesh offers several filling approaches. It uses Grid Fill, Hole Fill, and Contextual Create, plus a Simple Bridge Fill option for manual edge selection. Repair Notches fills missing border quads to create a grid-fillable boundary, Fill Shape reconstructs missing geometry on curved and organic surfaces, and Simple Quad Fill extends open boundaries with quad-based topology. Automatic Hole Detection finds gaps for you without manual edge selection, and you can close a selected area or seal an entire mesh.
Fill Mesh is listed as free in this catalog, and it's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. For current licensing details and the download, check the developer's page on Gumroad. The extension requires no special permissions, so you can install and enable it through Blender's Add-ons preferences without granting additional access. It's also available for drag-and-drop installation into Blender or install from disk.
