Earns its place in the Blender extensions library for pairing automatic selection detection with Face Set boundary control aimed specifically at hard-surface cleanup.
FST ForgePolish is a specialized hard-surface smoothing and polishing tool for Blender, designed to clean up retopologized meshes from ZBrush and remove surface irregularities before beveling and subdivision. It smooths bumpy hard-surface meshes, preserves volume while smoothing, and aims to get a model bevel-ready. You access it from the 3D Viewport by pressing N to open the sidebar, then switching to the Edit tab.
The tool reads the current mesh context directly and detects the polishing target from your Edit Mode selection, so no manual mode switching is required. Face Sets provide boundary control, letting you divide a messy mesh into protected regions without destructively splitting it. Separator edges can be found by Angle, Sharp Edges, UV Seams, Bevel Weight, or Material Boundaries, and a flood fill creates the regions.
Two polish modes are offered: Standard HC Mode, which uses HC correction to reduce volume loss, and Tension First, which prioritizes tension reduction for a tighter result with more surface shrinkage. Parameters include Polish Strength, Corner Lock, and advanced controls for inner and boundary smoothing and preservation. Multi-language support covers English, Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Vietnamese.
FST ForgePolish is best for hard-surface artists cleaning up retopologized meshes and removing surface irregularities before beveling and subdivision.
FST ForgePolish is completely free to download and use.
FST ForgePolish is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer. You access the tool inside the 3D Viewport: press N to open the sidebar, then switch to the Edit tab. Because it reads the current mesh context directly and determines the polishing target from your Edit Mode selection, there is no separate mode switching to configure. If you run a version older than 4.2 LTS, check the developer's page for compatibility before installing.
FST ForgePolish uses automatic selection detection, reading the current Edit Mode selection to determine the target. A face selection polishes the selected face region, an edge selection smooths along the edge flow and refines edge chains, and a vertex selection polishes only those vertices. With nothing selected, it polishes the entire mesh. No manual selection mode switching is required, since the tool determines the target from your current selection when you click Polish.
FST ForgePolish offers two polish modes. Standard HC Mode smooths the surface while using HC correction to reduce volume loss, and it is the default choice for controlled cleanup. Tension First prioritizes tension reduction for a tighter, sharper polished result, but produces more noticeable surface shrinkage. Both draw on the shared Polish Strength control, along with Corner Lock for protecting sharp boundary corners, which you can set to 0 to disable corner protection.
FST ForgePolish is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. You can find the project and its releases on the developer's GitHub page. For current licensing terms and the latest downloads, refer to that page directly. The extension is written entirely in Python and includes multi-language support covering thirteen languages, including English, Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Korean.
