Why we like it

Earns its place in the superhive library by compressing Blender's multi-step track-and-solve routine into a single automated click.

What is Flaxtrax - Automated Camera Tracking?

FlaxTrax is a fully-automated tracking and solving add-on for Blender, built to remove the tedious steps of motion tracking. It automatically adds trackers, adjusts motion tracking settings, processes the footage, resolves the tracked footage, removes poor trackers, applies filters, and takes multiple steps to reach your target solve error, all from a single click.

Beyond one-click auto-tracking, it finds the correct focal length, keeps more than the required number of trackers across every frame, and sets the tracked footage length to match the original. You still decide the pattern size and search size for the trackers. A masking feature lets you exclude moving elements such as passing people or vehicles so they don't interrupt the solve. It handles vertical footage and can track advanced motions.

Version 1.7.0 added the ability to use both image sequences and videos directly and improved vertical footage handling. FlaxTrax sits in the side panel of Blender's motion track area, and the track-and-solve process runs thousands of calculations in one to twenty-five minutes. A demo video is available.

Who is Flaxtrax - Automated Camera Tracking best for?

How much does Flaxtrax - Automated Camera Tracking cost?

Frequently asked questions

Does FlaxTrax work with Blender 4.2?

FlaxTrax version 1.7.1 can be downloaded in Blender 4.2, according to the developer's update notes. It lives in the side panel within Blender's motion track area, so once installed you'll find it there rather than in a separate window. If you're on a different Blender version, check the developer's page for compatibility details before installing, since the notes specifically call out 4.2 support in this release.

How do I install FlaxTrax in Blender?

FlaxTrax installs from a downloaded zip file through the Add-ons menu in Blender's properties. Leave the folder zipped, as the developer notes you should not unzip it before installing. After enabling the add-on, you'll find FlaxTrax in the side panel of Blender's motion track area. For a full walkthrough, the developer links a tutorial video that covers setup and use.

Can FlaxTrax track vertical footage?

FlaxTrax supports vertical footage. Click the Recommended Settings button and enable the Use Vertical Footage option before you start auto-tracking. To make sure that option appears, your scene needs a camera. Version 1.7.0 improved how the add-on handles vertical footage, so this workflow is built in rather than a workaround. For other footage, the same Recommended Settings starting point applies.

Does FlaxTrax work with video files or only image sequences?

FlaxTrax works with both image sequences and video files. Version 1.7.0 added video support, meaning you no longer need to convert your footage into an image sequence before using the add-on. When working from a sequence you provide the image sequence name, set your pattern and search sizes, define the focal length or enable Auto Focal Length, set a target solve error, and start auto-tracking.

Is FlaxTrax free?

FlaxTrax is listed as free here in the catalog. Licensing can change, so check the developer's page for the current terms before you rely on it. The add-on is developed by Axel Olsson and distributed as a zip file you install through Blender's Add-ons menu. Version 1.7.1 can be downloaded in Blender 4.2, and version 1.7.0 added support for both image sequences and video files. A demo video is also available.
