Earns its place in the superhive library for bundling 57+ customisable particle animations, 10 pre-animated 3D models and a one-click import add-on, with new content added every month.
The Particle Library is a collection of pre-made, fully customisable particle animations built for Blender. It spans over 57 animations organised into nine categories: Abstract, Boids, Explosions, Fire + Sparks, Magic, Paper + Bags, Paths, Weather and Zero-G. Alongside the animations sit 10 high-quality, pre-animated 3D models that pair with them.
The Boids category covers insect swarms, fish schools and bird flocks, with swarm behaviours that run in real-time and can be tweaked, plus bug models including mosquito, fly, bee and butterfly. Fire + Sparks brings spark, fire and ember animations, each shipping with a 'Spark' object that can be swapped in the settings. Paper + Bags uses soft body simulations of plastic bags, newspapers, small paper and sticky notes, driven by wind and turbulence forces you can customise. The Magic section adds portals, spells and fantasy assets, while Weather covers rain, snow and storms.
Animations import with one click through a custom add-on interface. A seed function in the particle settings generates variations of the same animation, and you can append any of the 10 particle objects or create your own. New assets are added every month, free of charge, for life.
The Particle Library is best for blender artists adding particle-based effects such as fire, sparks, explosions, weather, boid swarms and paper simulations to their scenes.
The Particle Library is completely free to download and use.
The Particle Library imports its animations with one click through a custom add-on interface. Fire, spark and ember animations arrive with a 'Spark' object already appended so they can be used straight away, and weather animations come with rain drops or snow particles appended too. From the object dropdown you can swap in any of the 10 included particle objects or assign your own. Once an animation is in your scene you position it and adjust it further through the settings.
The Particle Library includes a seed function in the particle settings that generates variations of the same animation, giving many looks from a single starting point. All animations and the 10 included 3D models can be customised, and boid animations let you tweak their behaviours. Paper and bag simulations use wind and turbulence forces you can adjust, and you can append any of the 10 particle objects or create your own objects for further variation.
The Particle Library ships with 10 high-quality, pre-animated 3D models alongside its 57+ animations. These pair with the animations and include bug models such as mosquito, fly, bee and butterfly for the insect swarm boid animations. The models can be customised or swapped out completely, and any of the 10 particle objects can be appended to animations from the library through the object dropdown. You can also create your own objects if the included set doesn't fit your look.
The Particle Library is listed as free in this catalog. The developer also states that new animations, 3D models and features are added every month, free of charge, for life. For current licensing terms and any conditions, check Lewis Martin's developer page. Because it's a growing collection, the number of animations and models available may keep increasing over time beyond the 57+ animations and 10 models described.
