Stands out in the ScriptSpot library because it pairs a standalone GLB and glTF to OBJ converter with a dedicated 3ds Max import script that reconstructs PBR materials and multi-part objects.
GLB2OBJ is a small standalone application that converts GLB and glTF files into OBJ format. Extract the zip archive anywhere, launch glb2obj.exe, choose one or multiple files, set an output folder, and press Convert Files.
The converter handles GLB or glTF files that contain multiple objects. It names output files with suffixes such as _part_01 and _part_02, each with its corresponding texture set. PBR textures use file naming introduced alongside glTF support.
To bring the results into 3ds Max, GLB2OBJ pairs with the developer's ImportObj script, which imports PBR materials and handles multiple-part objects. ImportObj imports each part, creates their materials, then attaches every part into single objects. Files with multiple parts are imported and attached based on their file name, so multiple objects can be brought in together. Version 1.2 fixes a bug where GLB or glTF files without any texture were not converted.
GLB2OBJ is best for converting GLB and glTF assets to OBJ and bringing them into 3ds Max with PBR materials via the companion ImportObj script.
GLB2OBJ is completely free to download and use.
GLB2OBJ runs as a standalone application. Extract the zip archive anywhere, then launch the glb2obj.exe file to open it. Choose one or multiple files you want to convert, set an output folder for the results, and press Convert Files. The conversion produces OBJ files from your GLB or glTF sources. Because it accepts multiple files at once, you can queue several assets and convert them in a single pass to the same output folder.
GLB2OBJ added glTF support in update 1.1, so it converts both GLB and glTF files to OBJ. The same update improved texture file naming for PBR textures and introduced a new UI. Update 1.2 fixed a bug in which GLB or glTF files that did not contain any texture were not being converted, so texture-free files now convert as well. Both GLB and glTF sources follow the same workflow of choosing files, setting an output folder, and pressing Convert Files.
GLB2OBJ handles GLB or glTF files that contain multiple objects. When it converts such a file, it names the output with suffixes like _part_01 and _part_02, each carrying its corresponding texture set. If you later use the developer's ImportObj script in 3ds Max, it imports each part, creates their materials, and attaches every part into single objects, so a multi-part file rebuilds as one object inside the scene.
GLB2OBJ produces OBJ files, and to bring them into 3ds Max the developer recommends the companion ImportObj script, available on ScriptSpot. ImportObj imports PBR materials and handles multiple-part objects, importing each part, creating their materials, then attaching every part into single objects. You can import multiple objects that each have multiple parts, and they are imported and attached based on their file name. This ties the standalone converter into a 3ds Max import workflow.
GLB2OBJ is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and the latest download, check the developer's page. The application ships as a zip archive that you extract anywhere before launching glb2obj.exe, and the companion ImportObj script for 3ds Max is available separately on ScriptSpot. The most recent release is version 1.2, which fixed a conversion bug affecting GLB or glTF files without any texture.
