Gp Follow Shapes earns its place for a specific job: keeping Grease Pencil strokes locked to shapekey-driven mesh morphs, with an optional pairing with GP Transfer Weights for rig-based movement. A demo video is available.
Gp Follow Shapes is a Blender addon that makes Grease Pencil drawings follow mesh deformations, keeping strokes aligned with animated geometry driven by rigs, shapekeys, or complex character setups. On its own, it keeps strokes consistent during shapekey-driven deformations such as facial expressions or morph targets.
Paired with GP Transfer Weights, the two addons cover more of the setup. GP Transfer Weights lets Grease Pencil strokes inherit rig weights so they move with bones and armatures, while Gp Follow Shapes binds strokes to shapekey deformations so they follow mesh morphs.
The workflow is non-destructive, leaving your drawings unchanged while the addon handles deformation, and it offers customizable controls for precision, influence distance, and shrinkwrap options. It runs on Blender 4.3 through 5.0 and does not work in Blender 4.2 and below. The render engine used is Eevee, and it's released under the GPL license.
Gp Follow Shapes is best for illustrators and animators binding Grease Pencil strokes to shapekey deformations for facial animation and expressive character work.
Gp Follow Shapes is completely free to download and use.
Gp Follow Shapes does not work in Blender 4.2 and below. It supports Blender 4.3 through 5.0 and is listed as Blender Extension compatible, installed as an add-on. The render engine used is Eevee. If you're running an older build, you'll need to update Blender before the add-on will function. For the current compatibility range and any newer notes, check the developer's page directly rather than assuming an older version will run it.
Gp Follow Shapes binds Grease Pencil strokes to shapekey deformations so they follow mesh morphs. GP Transfer Weights is a separate addon that lets strokes inherit rig weights so they move with bones and armatures. Used together, one covers shapekey-driven morphs while the other handles rig-driven movement, so strokes track both. Used on its own, Gp Follow Shapes still keeps strokes consistent during shapekey-driven deformations such as facial expressions or morph targets.
Gp Follow Shapes uses a non-destructive workflow, so your drawings remain unchanged while the addon handles the deformation. It binds strokes dynamically so they automatically follow mesh deformations, and offers customizable controls to adjust precision, influence distance, and shrinkwrap options to refine the result. This suits facial animation, including the typical ARKit mocap workflow, and expressive character work where strokes need to track shapekey-driven morphs.
Gp Follow Shapes is listed as free here, and it's released under the GPL license. Pricing on marketplaces can change over time, so for the current licensing terms and any purchase details, check the developer's page directly rather than relying on this listing. The add-on is marked as a Dev Fund Contributor on superhive, was published about seven months ago, holds a five-star rating from one review, and reports thirty-plus sales.
