Grungit earns its place in Blender's texturing toolkit for turning wear and tear into a single-click, fully controllable step. It keeps existing Principled BSDF materials, stays compatible with EEVEE, and ranges from subtle imperfections to heavy damage. It sits at rank 58 in the superhive library, and a demo video is available.
Grungit is a Blender addon that automatically adds wear and tear to your models with a single click. The result is fully controllable and can deliver anything from imperfections and light wear to heavy damage, giving you high-quality edge wear, grunge, and dirt without dictating a specific style.
It has very little impact on performance and is fully compatible with EEVEE. Grungit keeps your existing materials and works with add-ons that use the Principled BSDF node, and it's topology-independent with auto-unwrapping. An advanced mode offers more manual control, manual hand-painting lets you add or remove grunge and dirt, and a quick mode drops edge wear for imperfections and uniform wear.
The addon supports multiple objects and multiple materials, includes 1-click PBR baking with full PBR output, and stays animatable and adjustable in real-time. To render with EEVEE you convert materials using the baking feature first. Note that very thin surfaces can behave unexpectedly when the edge wear scale is too big.
Grungit - 1-Click Wear And Tear is best for blender artists adding edge wear, grunge, and dirt to their models with a single click.
Grungit - 1-Click Wear And Tear is completely free to download and use.
Grungit is fully compatible with EEVEE, so you can use its wear and tear effects in that render engine. There is one caveat: to render with EEVEE you need to use the PBR baking feature to convert your materials first. Some users have also reported that Grungit does not work with EEVEE on macOS, which the developer attributes to a bad OpenGL driver from Apple rather than the addon itself. On other systems, EEVEE support works alongside the addon's edge wear, grunge, and dirt as intended.
Grungit keeps your existing materials and works with add-ons that use the Principled BSDF node, so you don't have to rebuild or import shaders to use it. It's also topology-independent and includes auto-unwrapping, so it applies across your model without depending on a specific mesh layout. From version 1.8 it uses a separate UV channel by default and ignores materials whose names start with a period. This lets the wear, grunge, and dirt sit on top of what you already have while staying fully customizable.
Grungit supports multiple objects and multiple materials, so you can apply wear and tear across more than one asset at a time. Occlusion is affected by all objects, and UV packing by material is included. Keep in mind that baking many objects and materials is a bit slower than baking a single object and material, so larger scenes take longer to process. The effect stays animatable and adjustable in real-time regardless of how many objects you are working with.
Grungit added support for Blender 4.0 in version 1.9.0, alongside minor visual improvements. Earlier releases built up its feature set over time: multi-object support, quick mode, and 1-click PBR baking arrived in version 1.6, while version 1.7 introduced advanced mode and a remade node that renders faster in EEVEE. For the specific Blender versions supported by your download and any newer compatibility updates, check the developer's page before installing.
Grungit is listed as free in this catalog. The developer has also noted it is offered free on several platforms, with revenue from paid marketplaces donated to the Blender Development Fund. Because licensing and pricing can vary across the different platforms where it's distributed, check the developer's page for the current terms before downloading. That page is also the best source for the most up-to-date version and any details specific to where you obtain the addon.
