Handy Curve Profile earns its place in the superhive library for the range of curve tools it packs into one add-on, from profile shapes and per-point radius and tilt to bone creation and surface drawing.
Handy Curve Profile adds mesh detail to curve objects in Blender, applying various shapes onto a curve with a button click rather than a simple tube. Shapes can be added to a curve's end, flexible or rigid, and every aspect of the shape can be changed with controls, including switching between manual or fit curve length and setting segment distance. A Radius and Tilt sub-panel lets each point's radius and tilt be adjusted.
Beyond profiles, the add-on can copy a profile from the active object to others, create bones from curve points as open or closed loops, create curves from selected edges, and draw curves directly on a mesh surface using a modal operator. Selected profile meshes can be finalized while relevant proxy objects are cleaned up, and a single button appends new mesh to the source file for future use.
It comes with over 100 pre-made mesh shapes across categories such as Organic and Connection Segment. A custom folder path can be set in preferences so profiles are stored outside the addon folder and loaded per project.
Handy Curve Profile is best for blender artists who regularly use curves in their modeling workflow and want to apply mesh detail, whether building robots, machinery or organic creatures like horns, tails or tentacles.
Handy Curve Profile is completely free to download and use.
Handy Curve Profile was reformatted in update 1.5 to meet the Blender 4.2 extension platform standard, and an earlier update fixed compatibility with Blender 4.0. That makes it suited to recent Blender releases. For versions outside those noted, or to confirm the current supported range, check the developer's page, since the update history is the clearest guide to which Blender builds have been addressed directly.
Handy Curve Profile includes a modal operator for drawing a curve on a mesh surface. You select one or more meshes as the target surface, then press the Draw on surface button to enter modal mode. Left click adds a point on the surface, the W and S keys offset the distance from the surface, and Spacebar or Enter confirms the result. Right click or ESC cancels. This gives a way to lay curves directly onto existing geometry before applying a profile.
Handy Curve Profile lets you set a custom folder path under the addon preferences tab. By default it looks for the Handy Curve Profile.blend file inside the addon folder, but pointing it to your own folder keeps profiles easier to manage and avoids accidental overwrites when updating the addon. It also allows different profiles to load with different projects. If the path is left empty, the addon falls back to the file inside the addon folder. A refresh button updates the curve profile collection to your current selection.
Handy Curve Profile is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current details and any conditions of use it is best to check the developer's page directly. The add-on also lets you append your own mesh to the source file, so note the developer's warning: if you have appended new mesh, save it elsewhere before updating, to avoid losing your additions.
Handy Curve Profile had its script logic rewritten so it can apply and control multiple profile meshes at the same time, instead of only one at a time as in earlier versions. Alongside this, editing controls were added to switch between manual or fit curve length and to set segment distance. The Finalize Selection operator was also simplified, letting you drag select and finalize all selected meshes at once rather than handling them individually. Together these make working across several profiles more direct.
