Iconset Generator earns its place in the superhive library by automating a repetitive step for game and UI work: it renders icons and full spritesheets straight from your existing 3D models rather than generating new assets.
Iconset Generator is a Blender add-on from JMS Tools for producing game icons and full iconsets directly from 3D models. You select one or more objects in your scene and click Generate; the add-on renders each object and produces the icons and iconsets automatically. It uses your own camera and lighting setup and automates the rendering and post-processing pipeline.
During rendering, the add-on temporarily moves each selected object to the scene center and restores its original position afterward. It handles batch rendering of multiple selected objects, automatic cropping and framing, procedural background cards with presets, support for custom background images, an optional silhouette border, and a pixel-art iconset mode. Icons can be output at 512, 256, 128, 64 and 32, then arranged into grid spritesheets.
It requires Blender 4.0 or newer and uses the Eevee render engine. A camera must be present and properly framed so all objects render without cropping, and lighting is fully controlled by you. The add-on does not generate assets — it automates rendering and icon generation from models you already have.
Iconset Generator is best for indie developers, game asset creators, UI designers and asset pack creators who need to produce many icons quickly and consistently.
Iconset Generator is completely free to download and use.
Iconset Generator requires Blender 4.0 or newer and lists compatibility across the 4.0 to 5.0 range. It's marked as a Blender Extension and installs as an add-on. The tool uses the Eevee render engine for output, so your scene should be configured to render well under Eevee. Because it works from your own camera and lighting, having a supported Blender version and a properly framed scene matters more than any extra setup before you run it.
Iconset Generator uses the Pillow Python Imaging Library, which is now included automatically, so no manual installation is required. If a video tutorial mentions installing Pillow by hand, that step applies to older versions only and can be ignored. The add-on needs an internet connection on first run solely if Pillow still has to be installed automatically. After that initial setup, the imaging library is in place and generation runs directly from your Blender scene.
Iconset Generator works from your existing scene: you select one or more 3D objects and click Generate, and it renders each object then builds the icons and iconsets for you. It uses your own camera and lighting and automates the rendering and post-processing. During rendering it temporarily moves each selected object to the scene center, then restores its original position afterward. A camera must be present and properly framed so every object is captured without cropping.
Iconset Generator is listed as free here in the catalog. For current licensing terms, check the developer's page on superhive. The add-on is distributed under the GPL license. Keep in mind that it automates rendering and icon generation from models you already own rather than creating new assets, so you'll want your own 3D objects and a framed scene ready before running it. A demo video is also available for reference.
