Imposter Cards is a Blender add-on that turns selected high-poly objects into single-plane billboards with one click. Choose your models in the 3D view, click Generate Imposter Cards, and the add-on packs diffuse, normal, roughness, metallic and displacement information for up to 60 objects into one tightly packed texture atlas. That atlas feeds a unified shader that approximates each 3D object, and every object gets a single plane mesh that automatically turns to face the camera.
Under the hood, it takes six rendered shots of a mesh and stores them on the atlas, so each texture simulates a pseudo-3D surface. The plane scales and warps based on the object's shape, storing position, size and proportion attributes to minimize alpha overlap. It works in both EEVEE and Cycles, with automatic LOD switching driven by camera distance.
Options include customizable shader complexity across low, medium and high, texture resolution from 256x256 up to 4096x4096, and Tri-Planar imposter depth that adds two extra planes for reflections, clipping and shadows. Optional ambient occlusion and emission passes are available, and finished imposters export to Unity in one click.

Imposter Cards works with both EEVEE and Cycles, so the generated billboards render in either engine. It packs diffuse, normal, roughness, metallic and displacement information into a shared texture atlas that feeds a unified shader approximating the original 3D object. One caveat worth noting: the multiple slices with parallax, used for organic shapes and improved detail, are only available in Blender currently. That aside, the core imposter generation and camera-facing plane behaviour apply across both renderers, letting you keep your usual engine choice.
Imposter Cards generates its billboards from the 3D view: select your object or objects, then click the Generate Imposter Cards button. The add-on renders six shots of each mesh, stores them on a texture atlas, and builds a single plane that turns to face the camera. One important step is to save your Blender file first before generating, since atlas textures can be saved locally within the file's directory. After generation, the Imposter Editor panel lets you quickly edit the depth of the result.
Imposter Cards includes a one-click export to Unity, sending the generated imposter planes and their shared texture atlas to your Unity project. This fits its focus on game-ready assets, where the optional ambient occlusion pass adds shadow detail for game projects and the emission pass supports emissive textures. You can also choose a custom directory for the texture atlases or let them save locally within your Blender file's directory.
Imposter Cards lets you set the imposter texture resolution anywhere from 256x256 up to 4096x4096, so you can balance detail against memory. Shader complexity is customizable across low, medium and high settings to match your performance needs. A single atlas can hold up to 60 objects, and the Tri-Planar imposter depth option adds two extra planes for more accurate reflections, clipping and shadows. The Imposter Editor panel handles depth adjustments after generation, giving you room to refine each result.
