Live Dimensions earns its place in the Blender library for a narrow, practical job: showing dimensions in Edit Mode without mode switching, with unit conversion and a customizable viewport readout.
Live Dimensions is a Blender add-on from atelier ToK that keeps an object's measurements visible while you model. It updates dimensions in real time in Edit Mode, so you can read sizes without leaving your current mode, and it converts between millimetres, centimetres and metres with a single click.
The readout lives in the sidebar's Item tab and can also be drawn in the 3D viewport. Placement is flexible, with presets for the four corners plus settings for padding from the edge, font size and font color, and you can save your layout. In Edit Mode it calculates dimensions from the current selection and falls back to the whole mesh when nothing is selected. It handles multiple selected objects and works with mesh, plane and bezier objects.
Compatibility is listed for Blender 3.3 through the 4.0-4.4.3 range, with later updates addressing Blender 4.5. The add-on is lightweight, and a user manual is available. For questions or bug reports, atelier ToK can be reached by email.
Live Dimensions is best for architects, 3D printing enthusiasts and anyone who needs precise measurements while editing an object.
Live Dimensions is completely free to download and use.
Live Dimensions lists compatibility with Blender 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 and the 4.0 through 4.4.3 range. Later updates addressed Blender 4.5 as well: version 4.2 restored compatibility with Blender 4.5's depsgraph handler requirements and callback function, and version 5.1 fixed the add-on not working in Edit Mode under Blender 4.5. If you run into problems on your version, the developer, atelier ToK, invites bug reports by email so issues can be looked into directly.
Live Dimensions installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the live_dimensions.zip file, open Blender and go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, then click Install, navigate to the downloaded file, select it and confirm. Enable the add-on by checking the box next to 3D View: Live Dimensions. From version 3 onward the add-on switches on immediately after installation and stays on through new scenes and restarts until you turn it off. Open the sidebar with N and find the LIVE Dimensions panel under the Item tab.
Live Dimensions can display the dimensions of multiple selected objects, a capability added in version 3. In Edit Mode it calculates dimensions based on the current selection, and if nothing is selected it shows the dimensions for the entire mesh. The same version extended support to plane and bezier objects. To see the readout in the 3D viewport rather than only the sidebar, tick the Show in viewport checkbox in the LIVE Dimensions panel.
Live Dimensions appears in the 3D viewport sidebar under the Item tab, and it can also draw the dimensions directly in the viewport. Placement is customizable: presets cover the top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right corners, with settings for padding from the edge, font size and font color, and you can save the layout as you like. If the panel doesn't appear, check that the add-on is enabled in Blender's Preferences.
Live Dimensions is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing and any purchase details, check the developer's page from atelier ToK. Functionally the add-on stays lightweight and is meant not to slow Blender down, providing real-time dimension feedback in Edit Mode alongside one-click unit conversion between mm, cm and m. For questions, feature requests or bug reports, atelier ToK can be reached by email.
