MatSelector focuses on a single missing convenience in Blender: selecting objects by shared material in one action. Note the current face-material limitation the developer plans to address.
MatSelector is a Blender addon built to save time when working with materials across a scene. Select an object with a target material, hit "Select Similar", and the addon selects every object that shares similar materials. From there you can change all of them to a material of your choice, or move the selection into a collection and use it for keyframing and animation.
The addon addresses a common situation when importing a fully textured scene from another software into Blender, where objects sometimes come in ungrouped and are tedious to select one at a time. Instead of clicking each object individually and risking misclicks, MatSelector handles the selection for you through a user-friendly panel.
One current limitation: MatSelector doesn't work with materials applied to a single face within an object that has a different material. The developer notes this will be implemented in a future update. The addon ships with a simple UI and documentation, and is released under the GPL license for Blender versions 3.0 through 3.5.
Matselector is best for blender users handling scenes with many objects sharing the same materials, such as imported ungrouped scenes or repeated elements like building windows.
Matselector is completely free to download and use.
MatSelector supports Blender versions 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5, as listed by the developer. If you work across these versions, the addon is intended to function within that range. For any newer Blender release or to confirm the latest compatibility details, check the developer's page directly, since the listed range reflects what was published for this addon rather than untested versions beyond it.
MatSelector does not work with materials applied to a single face within an object that has a different material. Selection is based on the material of the object itself rather than per-face assignments. The developer has noted that this per-face handling will be implemented in a future update, so if your scene relies heavily on multiple materials assigned to faces of one object, keep this current limitation in mind when planning your workflow.
MatSelector works by selecting one object that has the target material assigned, then pressing "Select Similar" to select all objects sharing similar materials. Once selected, you can change them all to a material of your choice, or move the selection into a collection for use in keyframing and animation. Everything runs through a simple addon panel, so you avoid clicking similar objects one at a time and the misclicks that come with manual selection.
MatSelector is listed as free in this catalog, and it is released under the GPL license according to the developer. Licensing terms and any pricing can change over time, so for the current status and full details it is best to check the developer's page directly. The GPL license governs how the addon may be used and distributed, which is standard for many Blender addons.
