Earns its place in the superhive library for handling a fiddly task, wrapping geometry onto a UV-mapped surface, through a single non-destructive modifier. It assumes some familiarity with UV maps.
Mesh Materializer is a Blender add-on for wrapping one object onto the surface of another, using the target object's UV map as a guide, much like applying a material. A source object, such as a spiral, is wrapped onto a target, such as an egg, following the target's UV coordinates and then re-positioned. The add-on handles this non-destructively by adding a dedicated modifier.
Triggered from a simple right-click menu, the operation maps the object's X direction to the UV map's U direction and its Y to V, and transfers the source object's UVs and materials to the newly created object. You can control the height above the target and position, scale and rotate the object on its surface. A Preview Mode unwraps the target's UVs to help with placement, and edits to the original objects update the result in realtime.
It can be combined with other modifiers, and the result becomes a regular Blender object that you can export or edit once its modifiers are applied, leaving the underlying objects untouched. The add-on assumes some experience with UV maps and does not currently work with overlapping UVs.
Mesh Materializer is best for 3D modelers who wrap or 'paint' one object across another's UV-mapped surface, such as a tyre pattern around a cylinder, a badge on clothing, or bricks on a wall.
Mesh Materializer is completely free to download and use.
Mesh Materializer lists compatibility with Blender 3.4 through 5.2 and is marked as Blender Extension compatible, installed as an add-on under the GPL license. If you're on a version inside that range, the add-on should load and register its modifier as expected. For versions outside that window, check the developer's page and the documentation at the project's Read the Docs site before installing, since compatibility beyond the listed range isn't confirmed.
Mesh Materializer does not currently work with overlapping UVs, so the target object needs a clean, non-overlapping UV layout for the wrap to map correctly. The add-on assumes some experience with UV maps, mapping the object's X direction to the UV map's U and its Y to V. If you need help preparing square UV maps, the developer points to the separate UV Squares add-on as a companion for that step.
Mesh Materializer can be used in combination with any other modifiers, since it adds its own dedicated modifier to handle the wrap. Because the operation is non-destructive, you can update the original source or target objects and the result changes in realtime. A Preview Mode unwraps the target object's UVs to help you position, scale and rotate the source object, and you can also control its height above the target surface.
Mesh Materializer creates a regular Blender object that can be exported or edited once its modifiers are applied, while the underlying source and target objects remain unaffected. The source object's UVs and materials transfer to the newly created object during the operation. This means you can keep working non-destructively and only commit the geometry when you're ready to hand it off or continue editing it directly.
Mesh Materializer is listed as free in this catalog and is distributed under the GPL license as a Blender add-on. Licensing and availability can change, so check the developer's page for current terms before downloading. Documentation is hosted at the project's Read the Docs site, and a demo video is available. The add-on installs as a Blender extension and adds a right-click menu option that performs the wrap in one step.
