Why we like it

Mesh Medic earns its spot in the superhive library by pulling Blender's scattered cleanup operations into a single N-panel, pairing a diagnosis report with per-issue Fix buttons and a Select tool for manual inspection.

What is Mesh Medic?

Mesh Medic is a Blender add-on for diagnosing and fixing common mesh issues without digging through menus. Bad mesh data — duplicate vertices, Ngons, zero-area faces, loose geometry, and flipped normals — can cause rendering artifacts, physics failures, and broken rigs. This applies to AI-generated models, scanned geometry, or assets pulled from the web.

Run a full diagnosis on one mesh or several at once and get an instant report covering duplicate vertices and faces, Ngons, zero-area faces, loose vertices and edges, unapplied scale and rotation, and flipped normals. Every issue comes with a dedicated Fix button, or you can hit Fix All to resolve everything in one click. A Select button jumps into Edit Mode and highlights the affected geometry when you want to inspect or fix it manually.

Fixes include merging duplicate vertices by distance, converting Ngons to tris or quads, applying transforms, and recalculating normals. The Face Orientation overlay can be toggled from the panel, and all fix operations are undoable with Ctrl+Z.

Who is Mesh Medic best for?

Mesh Medic is best for cleaning up AI-generated models, scanned geometry, and downloaded assets carrying duplicate vertices, Ngons, loose geometry, or flipped normals before rendering, simulation, or rigging.

How much does Mesh Medic cost?

Mesh Medic is completely free to download and use.

Key features

  • One-click diagnosis of one or multiple meshes, returning a combined report covering duplicate vertices and faces, Ngons, zero-area faces, loose vertices and edges, unapplied scale and rotation, and flipped normals
  • A dedicated Fix button for every issue, plus a Fix All option to resolve everything at once
  • Merge duplicate vertices by distance and remove duplicate and zero-area faces
  • Convert Ngons to tris or quads, your choice
  • Apply scale and rotation transforms and recalculate normals, which clears Custom Split Normals automatically
  • A Select button that jumps into Edit Mode and highlights the affected geometry for manual inspection
  • Face Orientation overlay (Blue = OK, Red = Flipped) toggled from the panel, with all fix operations undoable via Ctrl+Z

Frequently asked questions

Does Mesh Medic work with Blender 4.2 and newer?

Mesh Medic supports Blender across versions 3.6 to 5.1. On Blender 4.2 and newer, you install it as an Extension using the included .zip file, while Blender 4.1 and earlier use the .py file installed directly. Both files come in the download, so you pick the one that matches your version. The add-on works with the Cycles and Eevee render engines, and it lives in the N-panel of the View3D sidebar once installed.

How do I install Mesh Medic in Blender?

Mesh Medic installs one of two ways depending on your Blender version. For Blender 4.2 and up, install the included .zip as an Extension; for Blender 4.1 and below, install the included .py add-on file directly. Both are packaged in the download. After installation, select the object or objects you want to clean, open the Mesh Medic tab in the N-panel (View3D Sidebar), and click Run Diagnosis to review the report before fixing.

Can Mesh Medic clean up several objects at once?

Mesh Medic supports multiple objects at once. Select several meshes, then run a diagnosis or apply fixes across all of them together, with results shown as a combined total rather than one report per object. Fix All resolves every detected issue in one click, while individual Fix buttons let you handle problems one at a time. If you need to inspect something first, the Select button jumps into Edit Mode and highlights the affected geometry.

Why does Mesh Medic leave triangles after converting Ngons to quads?

Mesh Medic converts Ngons to tris or quads based on your choice, but To Quads is a best-effort operation. Complex Ngons may leave some triangles behind, which is a Blender limitation rather than a bug in the add-on. If that happens, you can use the Select button to jump into Edit Mode and highlight the geometry to adjust it manually. All fix operations are undoable with Ctrl+Z if you want to step back.

Is Mesh Medic free to use?

Mesh Medic is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing and pricing can change, so check the developer's page for the current terms before you download. The add-on is distributed under the GPL license. Both installation files are included in the download: the .zip Extension for Blender 4.2 and up, and the .py file for Blender 4.1 and below, so you can install whichever matches your Blender version.
