MeshStudio stands out in the superhive library because it puts the camera, world environment and studio lighting used for Asset browser previews under your control, and works with both Cycles and Octane Render.
MeshStudio is an addon for Blender that generates and assigns custom object previews inside the Asset browser. To create a preview, select the objects you want in the 3D viewport with the cursor centered in the camera view, then let the addon render them. Don't like the result? Modify the object and render a new preview.
You can pick your own camera and world environment, adjust preview resolution and camera zoom, and set a custom output folder. When no folder is set, previews save to an //object_previews folder next to the .blend file. A Studio Lighting feature lets you set up real lights, backdrops or additional geometry: place them in a collection, select it under the Studio dropdown, and MeshStudio renders every object in that collection. Choose None to skip studio lighting.
MeshStudio is compatible with Cycles and Octane Render and is released under the GNU GPL 3.0 license. A demo video is available on the developer's page.
Meshstudio is best for blender artists who want to generate and assign custom previews for their objects inside the Asset browser.
Meshstudio is completely free to download and use.
MeshStudio has been tested and works with Blender 4.4.0, according to the developer, while its listing indicates compatibility spanning Blender 4.4 through 5.0. Other versions haven't been tested, so behaviour outside 4.4.0 isn't confirmed. If you're running a version in that range, it's worth rendering a test preview to check everything works as expected before committing to a larger batch of assets. For the most current compatibility details, check the developer's page.
MeshStudio is compatible with both Cycles and Octane Render, so you can generate object previews using whichever of those two engines fits your setup. The addon uses the camera and world environment you select, so the look of each preview depends on the render engine along with your chosen lighting and environment. If you want more control over the lighting, the Studio Lighting feature renders objects placed in a collection alongside real lights, backdrops or additional geometry.
MeshStudio installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the .zip file, open Blender's Preferences, select the Add-ons tab, and choose Install from Disk. Once installed, the addon becomes visible in the Asset browser, where it generates and assigns your object previews. A useful tip from the developer is to create a Blender startup file containing a collection of cameras, world environments and studio lights made specifically for rendering previews, which saves setup time on future projects.
MeshStudio lets you set a custom output folder where your rendered previews are saved, and you can quickly access that folder from the addon. If you don't set an output folder, previews are saved to an //object_previews folder located where your .blend file is stored. Because you can modify an object and render a new preview at any time, you can keep iterating on the look and refresh the saved images whenever you're happy with the result.
MeshStudio is listed as free in this catalog and is released under the GNU GPL 3.0 license. No .blend files are included with the addon itself, though the developer notes that the HDRIs and assets shown in the video are free and can be downloaded from external sources. For current licensing terms and any details on what's bundled, check the developer's page before downloading.
