Earns its place in the superhive library by covering the full MetaHuman-to-Blender path — import, materials, facial rig and round-trip to UE5 — from one guided panel.
MetaHuman DNA Importer is a Blender add-on from Souhail Ninia for bringing downloaded MetaHuman characters into Blender. Working from local DNA and source files, it rebuilds head and body meshes with selectable texture resolution and LOD0–7, and imports skin, eyes, teeth and groom materials automatically, with live sliders for skin HSV, tint, roughness, SSS and specular.
A single guided panel walks through the steps top to bottom: choose resolution and LOD, then add meshes, materials, skeleton and the facial panel. The setup includes a full skeleton, a facial control board and N-panel sliders grouped by region with X-mirror, plus a real-time Rig Logic that drives corrective shape keys as you pose. You can sculpt or edit any active shape key directly from the panel, swap groom from a preview library or your own .dnapack packages, and generate a complete Rigify rig in one click.
Edits round-trip to UE5: sculpted morphs and mesh changes bake into the DNA, and a clean DCC folder exports head.dna, body.dna and Maps. It runs with Cycles and Eevee under a GPL license.
Metahuman Dna Importer is best for blender artists working with downloaded MetaHuman characters who need to rebuild them, rig faces and send edits back to UE5.
Metahuman Dna Importer is completely free to download and use.
MetaHuman DNA Importer lists compatibility with Blender 4.0 up to 5.1 and works with both the Cycles and Eevee render engines. It's distributed as a Blender extension add-on. If you plan to generate a Rigify rig, you'll also need to enable Rigify inside Blender first, since that's a required step for the one-click rig generation. Beyond that, the add-on installs by dragging the file into Blender, so basic setup doesn't require a separate installer.
MetaHuman DNA Importer requires a downloaded MetaHuman character with its DNA and source files available locally, covering MetaHuman versions 5.0 to 5.7. The add-on reads those files to rebuild head and body meshes, materials, skeleton and facial controls inside Blender. If you want to generate a Rigify rig, you also need Rigify enabled in Blender. It's an independent add-on and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Epic Games, though it works with MetaHuman assets you've already downloaded.
MetaHuman DNA Importer installs by dragging the file into Blender, so it's set up as soon as the file is dropped in. From there, a single guided panel walks you through the process top to bottom: choose resolution and LOD, then add meshes, materials, skeleton and the facial panel. This drag-to-install method arrived in the v0.6.0 update, which the developer describes as easier to install alongside faster performance. Check the developer's page for full documentation and any version-specific notes.
MetaHuman DNA Importer supports a round-trip to UE5. Sculpted shape keys and mesh edits are baked into the DNA, so changes made in Blender show up in Unreal. The export produces a clean DCC folder containing head.dna, body.dna and Maps. Using its 4D Sculpt feature, you can pose the face and sculpt or edit any active shape key directly from the panel, then export those morphs back out. This lets you move character edits between Blender and Unreal through the DNA files.
MetaHuman DNA Importer is listed as free here in our catalog. Licensing and any bundled starter content can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current terms before downloading. The add-on itself is released under a GPL license and is distributed as a Blender extension. A demo video is also available on the developer's page if you'd like to see more before installing.
