Aimed at 3ds Max users working with imported CAD and BIM geometry, it handles heavy files with millions of polygons and ties into the default 3ds Max file linking. A demo video is available.
miauu's Manage Links is a commercial script for 3ds Max that bridges programs such as Sketchup, Rhino and Autocad with 3ds Max. It imports models, cleans and fixes the imported geometry, and splits it into one object per material. Heavy files with millions of polygons are processed smoothly and fast.
The resulting objects are saved as a .fbx file, which you can link to 3ds Max manually or have miauu's Manage Links link automatically. The tool uses the default 3ds Max file linking, and supports importing SKP and OBJ file types. If you use ForestPack or Multiscatter, the objects those tools create are updated after a link update.
With SKP files, the script works best when the old SKP importer is used. Because the new SKP importer in 3ds Max 2020 offers limited settings compared to the old importer used in 3ds Max 2019 and earlier, it is recommended to save .skp files for Sketchup 2014 or lower, regardless of the version you use.
miauu's Manage Links is best for 3ds Max artists importing SKP or OBJ geometry from CAD and BIM programs like Sketchup, Rhino and Autocad.
miauu's Manage Links is completely free to download and use.
miauu's Manage Links is compatible with Autodesk 3ds Max and 3ds Max Design 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027. It uses the default 3ds Max file linking, so it fits into the standard workflow across those releases. If you rely on the SKP importer, note that the old importer is available in 3ds Max 2019 and earlier, while 3ds Max 2020 introduced the new importer with fewer tweakable settings.
miauu's Manage Links supports importing SKP and OBJ file types. It brings the models in, cleans and fixes the geometry, and splits it into one object per material, then saves the result as a .fbx file. With SKP files the script works best when the old SKP importer is used, since the new importer in 3ds Max 2020 offers limited settings that users can tweak compared with the old importer in earlier versions.
miauu's Manage Links works best with SKP files when the old SKP importer is used. Because the new SKP importer in 3ds Max 2020 offers limited settings compared to the old importer used in 3ds Max 2019 and previous versions, missing options may lead to improperly imported models. To avoid this, it is recommended to save your .skp files for Sketchup 2014 or a lower version, no matter which version of Sketchup you use.
miauu's Manage Links works alongside ForestPack and Multiscatter. If you use either of those tools, the objects they create are updated after link updating. The script imports your CAD or BIM models, cleans and fixes the geometry, splits it into one object per material and saves it as an .fbx file, which you can link to 3ds Max manually or have the script link automatically using the default 3ds Max file linking.
miauu's Manage Links is a commercial script, and it is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing details and the most accurate information, check the developer's page. The script connects programs such as Sketchup, Rhino and Autocad with 3ds Max, imports and cleans geometry, splits it by material, and saves the result as an .fbx file for linking into 3ds Max.
