Why we like it

A focused node-organization add-on in the Superhive library, pairing a pack-based node library with a Notes commenting tool for the node editor.

What is Nodeshelf?

NodeShelf lets you save and load node groups and reuse them across different Blender files by managing them through Node Packs. You can categorize node groups into packs based on their use — math nodes, custom geometry, patterns, and more — building a personal node library from your frequently used groups. Packs can be added, removed and renamed, and you can assign thumbnail images to each one.

Saving and loading is built around the active Node Pack. You can load a selected group from a pack or load the whole pack at once, with an auto-place option that drops the loaded group onto the active node tree. The workflow runs from saving a group to a pack, then choosing that pack and group from a drop-down menu in another Blender file.

NodeShelf Tools complement the node editor with Notes: draggable text widgets you can drop onto the node tree as comments. Notes can snap to nodes, be assigned different colors, and be renamed, recolored, deleted or duplicated. A demo video and documentation are available.

Who is Nodeshelf best for?

Nodeshelf is best for blender artists who want to organize, save and reuse node groups across files and annotate their node trees with comments.

How much does Nodeshelf cost?

Nodeshelf is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does NodeShelf support?

NodeShelf lists support for Blender 4.1 and 4.0. If you are running one of these versions you should be able to use its Node Pack management, save/load features and NodeShelf Tools as described. For any versions outside this range, check the developer's page for the latest compatibility details before installing, since the add-on was published around two years ago and version support may have changed since then.

How do I save and load a node group with NodeShelf?

NodeShelf works by first creating a new Node Pack, renaming it and assigning a thumbnail image. Select a node group, make sure your file has been saved after that group was created or last modified, then click Save Group to Pack. In a new Blender file you choose your desired Node Pack, select a saved group from the drop-down, and click Load Group or Load Pack. If auto-place is enabled, the group appears on the active node tree.

What are NodeShelf Tools and Notes?

NodeShelf Tools are a set of tools that complement your node editor workflow. The main one is Notes: after initiating NodeShelf Tools and selecting Show Notes, you click Add Note to drop text widgets onto the node editor as comments. Notes can snap to nodes and be assigned different colors, and each one can be renamed, recolored, deleted or duplicated. This gives you a way to annotate node trees directly alongside your saved node groups.

Is NodeShelf free, and what license does it use?

NodeShelf is listed as free here in this catalog, and it is distributed under the GPL license. Because licensing and pricing can change over time, check the developer's page for the current terms before you download or rely on it for production work. The add-on is also noted as a Development Fund contributor, which you can confirm on the creator's official listing.
