OmniOutset earns its place in the blender_extensions library by bringing true equidistant edge and face outsets to hard-surface modeling, paired with an interactive modal workflow and support for 10 interface languages. It works with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer.
OmniOutset brings equidistant edge and face outsets into Blender's hard-surface modeling workflow. True equidistant edge extrude produces uniform thickness along any complex boundary, while smart face extrude achieves an equidistant offset while extruding along the normal. It auto-caps open sheets into solid volumes and maintains clean internal topology for solid meshes.
The interactive modal workflow takes over the mouse on activation, so you drag to preview extrusion and outset in real time. Hold Ctrl to switch to the secondary parameter (Outset or Z-Offset), and hold Shift to slow movement for precision tweaking. Smart topology detection deletes bottom faces on connected surfaces to create a clean cavity, or retains and flips normals on isolated faces to generate a closed shell.
A single universal shortcut (default Shift + Alt + E) detects whether you're in Face or Edge mode and invokes the correct tool, and it can be rebound in Preferences. OmniOutset supports 10 languages out of the box and requires Blender 4.2 LTS or newer.
OmniOutset is best for blender hard-surface modelers who want true equidistant edge and face outsets with an interactive, drag-to-adjust workflow.
OmniOutset is completely free to download and use.
OmniOutset requires Blender 4.2 LTS or newer and is built on Blender's Extensions system architecture, so earlier releases aren't supported. To install, download the add-on ZIP, then open Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions, click the downward arrow in the top right corner, and choose Install from Disk to select the file. Avoid downloading the Source Code zip. Once installed, the tools become available in Edit Mode on any mesh you're working with.
OmniOutset works in Edit Mode. Select the boundary edges or faces you want to extrude, then press the universal shortcut (default Shift + Alt + E), which detects whether you're in Face or Edge mode and invokes the matching interactive tool. You can also right-click to open the context menu and choose the tools under OmniOutset Tools. While dragging, watch the status bar for real-time data, then left click to confirm the extrusion and outset.
OmniOutset uses a single universal hotkey, default Shift + Alt + E, that automatically routes to the Face or Edge interactive tool based on your current selection mode. If the default clashes with your setup, you can rebind it: go to Preferences > Extensions > OmniOutset and expand the OmniOutset Shortcut Configuration panel to set your preferred key. This lets you match the hotkey to your muscle memory without memorizing separate shortcuts for each mode.
OmniOutset ships with a global language pack that integrates with Blender's native UI and supports 10 languages out of the box: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Portuguese. The v1.1.1 update added the five newest languages — Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Portuguese — alongside the previously supported set. The localization follows Blender's own interface language, so no extra configuration is needed to switch.
OmniOutset is listed as free here and released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. For the current terms, source code, and any licensing details, check the developer's page on GitHub. The v1.1.1 release also includes a unit scale fix so parameters correctly respect the scene's Unit Scale, such as millimeters or centimeters. Bug reports and feature requests can be filed on the developer's GitHub issues page.
