Why we like it

Posingatwill earns its place for a mouse-driven approach to bone rotation and roll, replacing the R-key and axis-based workflow with movable Target and Roll ring sets.

What is Posingatwill?

Posingatwill, developed by POWERBLOW, handles character posing in Blender through intuitive mouse controls. It works with any FK rig and needs no setup. You rotate bones and adjust bone roll using only the mouse, moving away from the traditional R-key and axis-based rotation workflow.

The add-on uses two sets of rings. The Target Set is movable, initially placed at the bone tail and repositionable; its outer ring defines the rotation direction while the inner ring applies the rotation. The Roll Set stays fixed at the bone head and does not rotate the bone: its outer ring sets the roll value and the inner ring resets the roll to the current bone roll. You can also enter target and roll values manually in the panel.

Posingatwill supports Blender 4.2, 4.5, 5.0 and 5.1 on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) with x86_64 Intel or AMD CPUs, and is not compatible with ARM64 Windows, macOS or Linux. It is released under the MIT License, and a demo video is available.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does Posingatwill support?

Posingatwill supports Blender 4.2, 4.5, 5.0 and 5.1, with older versions not guaranteed to work. The developer plans support for the next Long-Term Support (LTS) release, and provides updates and bug fixes as needed for the currently listed versions. If you run one of these versions, the add-on should install and enable normally. For anything outside this range, check the developer's page before relying on it, since behaviour on unlisted versions is not assured.

Does Posingatwill run on macOS or Linux?

Posingatwill runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) with x86_64 CPUs from Intel or AMD. It is incompatible with ARM64 Windows devices such as Snapdragon machines, and it will not run on macOS (Intel or Apple Silicon M1, M2 and M3) or Linux. If you work on any of those platforms, the add-on is not an option, so confirm your system matches the Windows x86_64 requirement before installing.

How do I install Posingatwill in Blender?

Posingatwill installs through Blender's standard add-on flow. Open Edit, then Preferences, then the Add-ons section, click Install, and select the downloaded ZIP file. Enable the add-on once it appears in the list. After that, select your target armature, switch to Pose mode, open the Posing@Will tab in the Sidebar and enable the View checkbox to start working with the rings. When you are finished, disable the View checkbox to turn the overlay off.

Is Posingatwill free, and what license does it use?

Posingatwill is listed as free in this catalog, and it is distributed under the MIT License, with the full license text included in LICENSE.txt inside the add-on ZIP. For current licensing terms and any support questions, check the developer's page. POWERBLOW notes the add-on is provided as is, without responsibility for damage, data loss or unexpected behaviour, so use it at your own risk and keep backups of your work.
