Earns its place by pulling group limits, bone-click switching, mirroring, weight transfer, and JSON import/export into a single vertex weight editing panel. Documentation and a demo video are available.
Precision Weight Editor Pro is a Blender addon focused on vertex weight editing for character rigging and weight painting. It centers on speed and precision, packing several weight tools into one panel to improve editing efficiency.
The addon can limit the maximum number of non-zero weight vertex groups per vertex, with a Refresh Weight Limit button to apply changes. A group list syncs with Blender's active vertex group, and a bone selection mode (shortcut Shift + Alt + E, with an adjustable pick radius) lets you switch vertex groups by clicking bones. Quick weight buttons, plus and minus increment controls, and a 0.0-1.0 slider handle value setting.
Bone display options toggle names, wireframe display, and colors. A mirror function copies weights across the X axis with a symmetry threshold and custom left/right identifiers. Weights export and import as JSON, and a transfer function moves weights between objects using nearest neighbor, distance threshold, or normal projection modes.
Precision Weight Editor Pro is best for character rigging and weight painting workflows in Blender.
Precision Weight Editor Pro is completely free to download and use.
Precision Weight Editor Pro includes a bone selection mode you activate with a function button or the Shift + Alt + E shortcut. Once active, clicking a bone switches the active vertex group, and a Pick Radius setting (default 28 pixels) controls how close your click needs to land. You exit the mode by pressing ESC or right-clicking. The addon's group list also syncs with Blender's active vertex group, so switches stay in step with Blender itself.
Precision Weight Editor Pro transfers weights from a chosen source object using three modes. Nearest Neighbor matches vertices with a nearest neighbor algorithm and is the fastest. Distance Threshold matches vertices within a set distance for more precise results. Normal Projection uses normal projection to match vertices and suits similar topology. The distance threshold value only applies in Distance Threshold mode, and an option can automatically create vertex groups that don't exist on the target object.
Precision Weight Editor Pro has a mirror function that copies weights across the X axis, either from X positive to X negative or the reverse. A symmetry threshold (default 0.0001) sets the tolerance for deciding whether vertices sit on the mirror axis, and Auto Normalize can normalize weights after mirroring. You can also use custom left and right identifiers in prefix, suffix, or contains modes, with default identifiers of _L_ and _R_.
Precision Weight Editor Pro can export the current object's vertex weights to a JSON file and import weights from a JSON file back onto the current object. Alongside this, a Vertex Weight Information panel displays the weight distribution of selected vertices, showing a single vertex directly or grouping multiple vertices by their weight distribution. You can click vertex group names in that panel to set weights quickly on the selection.
Precision Weight Editor Pro is listed as free in this catalog. Pricing and licensing can change over time, so check the developer's page on superhive for the current terms before downloading. Documentation and a demo video are also available for further reference. As a Blender addon for vertex weight editing, it groups its tools into collapsible sections you can expand as needed while working through rigging and weight painting tasks.
