Why we like it

Quick UV Projector works only in Front, Side, Top, Back and Under views, and the model must sit inside the background border. Backgrounds shouldn't be mirrored, have minus-value scale, or be stretched.

What is Quick Uv Projector?

Quick UV Projector is a Blender addon for fitting UVs to a background image without the repeated manual adjustment that standard UV projection from view can require. It projects UVs based on 3D space, detecting the background border and mapping according to how your model sits inside the bounds of the background image. It works across angles and scales, and you can switch textures by moving your model over your preferred texture, at which point the addon detects the nearest background and creates a texture material for you.

The addon functions in object mode, edit mode and sculpt mode. You can sculpt to adjust a shape so it fits the background and project texture directly in sculpt mode. For multi-angle work, select your preferred faces, then map and assign new materials to the model.

The interface uses two buttons and a material option with instructions. "Auto UV Project From View" handles whole-model projection with a single material; "UV Mapping for Selected Faces & New Material" works in edit mode on selected faces only. A "Use Existing Material" option matches an existing material name instead of creating a new one each time.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does Quick UV Projector support?

Quick UV Projector lists support for a wide range of Blender versions, from 2.8 through 4.3, including 2.81, 2.82, 2.83, 2.9, 2.91, 2.92, 2.93, and the 3.0 through 3.6 and 4.0 through 4.3 releases. This broad coverage spans both older and current Blender builds. If you're on a specific version, check the developer's page to confirm compatibility before installing, since the listed versions reflect what the addon has been published to work with.

What views does Quick UV Projector work in?

Quick UV Projector works in Front, Side, Top, Back and Under views only. To make sure it works properly, get into your preferred view first and then add the background. If you add the background in a different view, you'll need to rotate the background into your preferred view. The background can't be mirrored during this process. Keeping to these supported views is part of getting reliable projection results with the addon.

Are there limitations on the background image in Quick UV Projector?

Quick UV Projector has a few known background limitations. The background shouldn't be mirrored, shouldn't have a minus-value scale, and shouldn't be stretched. The model also needs to be inside the background border for projection to work. Because the addon detects the background border and projects UVs based on how the model sits within those bounds, keeping the background clean and the model contained within it is important for correct results.

How do the two buttons in Quick UV Projector work?

Quick UV Projector uses two buttons. "Auto UV Project From View" handles whole-model projection with a single material and works in object mode, edit mode and sculpt mode. "UV Mapping for Selected Faces & New Material" works in edit mode only; you select the faces you want first, then click the button so only those faces are projected and assigned to a new material. A "Use Existing Material" option, when enabled, matches an existing material name rather than creating a new one each click.

Is Quick UV Projector free?

Quick UV Projector is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the current licensing and any purchase details, check the developer's page directly. The addon includes documentation with full instructions covering its two buttons and the material option, which helps when getting started. A demo video is also available for the addon.
