Why we like it

Rockify earns its place in the superhive library as a focused rock generator: feed it a primitive shape and it builds a realistic rock with cliff faces, then remeshes it into triangulated topology for real-time engines. The bundled Substance Painter smart material and range of preset rock types round it out for artists working toward games or CG scenes.

What is Rockify - Rock Generator Plugin?

Rockify - Rock Generator Plugin brings rock creation to Blender, turning any low poly primitive shape into a realistic 3D rock complete with natural cliff faces. Click Generate Rock and the input shape guides the result. The rocks are real-time optimized for use in movies, games and other CG applications.

For real-time pipelines, Rockify can remesh rocks into triangulated topology suited to game engines like Unreal Engine 5, and it works with Unreal Engine 5's Nanite. A set of distinctive presets covers Volcanic, Limestone, Granite, Stalagmites and Stalactites, with Sedimentary and Igneous added in a newer update.

The interface is kept clean and accessible for beginners while staying efficient for professional users. Rockify also includes a Substance Painter smart material (.spsm), so users with Substance Painter can add texture by dragging and dropping it onto an imported, baked asset. Created by Joe Garth and released under the GPL license.

Frequently asked questions

Does Rockify work with Blender 4.5?

Rockify supports Blender versions 3.6 through 4.5, and the plugin has been updated to Blender 4.5. You install it as an add-on: download the Rockify zip file, open Blender, go to Edit > Preferences, click the Add-ons tab, then choose install and select the zip. After enabling it, press N in the viewport to open the right-hand sidebar, where the Rockify tab appears. The listed range covers a broad span of recent Blender releases from 3.6 up to 4.5.

Can rocks made with Rockify be used in Unreal Engine 5?

Rockify includes a remesh step that converts generated rocks into triangulated topology described as real-time ready for game engines like Unreal Engine 5. The rocks are also noted as suitable for Unreal Engine 5's Nanite. Beyond games, the output is positioned for movies and other CG applications. So if your target is a real-time engine, you can generate a rock, remesh it for optimized topology, and bring it into your engine.

How do I install Rockify in Blender?

Rockify installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the Rockify zip file, open Blender and go to Edit > Preferences, then click the Add-ons tab on the left. Choose install and select the zip you downloaded. Once it's installed, use the add-ons search field and type 'rockify' to confirm it's present. To open its interface, hover in the viewport and press N to bring up the right-hand sidebar, where you'll find the Rockify tab. The Substance Painter smart material is included separately inside the zip under Resources.

Does Rockify come with Substance Painter textures?

Rockify ships with a Substance Painter smart material saved as a .spsm file (CliffRock.spsm), found inside the zip under Rockify\Resources\Substance. To use it, extract the file, then in Substance Painter go to File > Import Resources and import it to your project. After baking all maps for your asset, drag the smart material from the asset panel onto the layers panel and the object is textured automatically. This gives Substance Painter users a drag-and-drop route to texturing generated rocks.
