Roughness Builder earns its place in the Superhive library by pairing a large included texture set with mapping, blend, and multi-material controls in a single panel.
Roughness Builder is an add-on for Blender that ships with more than 500 roughness textures, organized in categorized folders and covering fingerprints, grunge, surface imperfections, scratches, and more. Textures are browsed through a paginated folder browser with large thumbnail previews, all from a clean N-panel interface inside the 3D Viewport.
Selecting a texture applies it to the material's roughness channel immediately, with an auto-apply mode for one-click use. You can direct roughness to the active material, selected materials, or all materials on an object, and scan a model's materials to choose exactly where it goes. Each applied texture can be fine-tuned with scale (uniform and XYZ), rotation, position, brightness, contrast, and invert controls.
Four blend modes — Replace, Multiply, Add, and Overlay — control how a new texture interacts with existing roughness, each with an adjustable blend factor. The add-on is fully self-contained with no external dependencies and works with Blender 4.0 and up, including 5.0.
Roughness Builder is best for blender artists building material roughness who want a ready-made texture library and in-viewport controls rather than manual node setups.
Roughness Builder is completely free to download and use.
Roughness Builder works with Blender 4.0 and up, including 5.0. The add-on is fully self-contained with no external dependencies, so it does not require additional libraries or downloads beyond the add-on itself. Its interface lives in a clean N-panel inside the 3D Viewport, and the 500+ roughness textures ship with the add-on in categorized folders. If you run a version outside the stated 4.0-and-up range, check the developer's page for current compatibility details before installing.
Roughness Builder applies a selected texture directly to the material's roughness channel. With auto-apply mode enabled, choosing a texture applies it immediately with no extra clicks. You can target the active material, selected materials, or all materials on an object, and scan a model's materials to choose exactly where the roughness goes. Four blend modes — Replace, Multiply, Add, and Overlay — control how the new texture interacts with existing roughness, each with an adjustable blend factor.
Roughness Builder provides mapping controls for scale — both uniform and XYZ — along with rotation and position for each applied texture. It also includes brightness, contrast, and invert adjustments, all available from the same panel. Combined with the four blend modes and their adjustable blend factor, these controls let you fine-tune how a roughness texture reads on a material. The included library spans over 500 textures such as fingerprints, grunge, surface imperfections, and scratches.
Roughness Builder is listed as free here and is distributed under the GPL license. For current licensing terms, any coupons, and the latest availability, check the developer's page on Superhive. The add-on comes from creator Milad Kambari and includes documentation. A demo video is also available if you want to see more before installing. Because it is self-contained with no external dependencies, setup does not require additional third-party components.
