Earns its place in the superhive library by taking Blender's object-mode-only random select and extending it into edit mode, with vertex group and collection filtering for more targeted results.
Select Random Plus improves Blender's built-in select random function. The default utility only works in object mode, so this add-on adds edit-mode support: you can randomly select a set number of vertices, edges, or faces, which the developer notes is useful for tasks like making landscapes.
Beyond mesh elements, it respects vertex groups and collections. Choosing a vertex group limits the random selection to vertices inside it, handy for organic changes to only part of an object. In object mode, setting a collection restricts selection to objects within it, with no need to hide anything, and you can pick a specific number of objects rather than a percentage.
The controls are built into Blender's sidebar under the Tool panel. Selection runs with a single click, and the add-on jumps you to the right view rather than requiring you to already be there.
Select Random Plus is best for blender users who need randomized selections of mesh elements or whole objects, including landscape work and organic edits to only part of a mesh.
Select Random Plus is completely free to download and use.
Select Random Plus supports Blender versions 4.0, 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.3, 3.2, 3.1, and 3.0, according to its listed compatibility. That covers the 3.x series through the 4.0 release. If you run a newer Blender build than those listed, check the developer's page to confirm whether support has been extended, since compatibility can change with updates. Matching your Blender version against this range before installing is the safest way to avoid surprises.
Select Random Plus works in edit mode, which is its main improvement over Blender's built-in random select. The default utility only operates in object mode, whereas this add-on lets you randomly select a set number of vertices, edges, or faces while editing a mesh. Individual sliders control the random selection for each element type. The developer notes this is useful for tasks like making landscapes.
Select Random Plus can limit a random selection using two filters. In edit mode, choosing a vertex group from the drop-down restricts the random selection to vertices within that group, which the developer describes as useful for organic changes to a certain part of an object. In object mode, setting a collection limits the selection to objects within it, with no need to hide anything else first, keeping the rest of the scene untouched.
Select Random Plus lets you set a specific number of objects to select in object mode, rather than working only from a percentage. A slider controls how many random objects are picked, and when a collection is set from the drop-down, that count is drawn only from objects within the collection. This gives you direct control over the exact size of a random object selection instead of estimating it as a proportion of the scene.
Select Random Plus is listed as free here, and it is distributed under the GPL license. Licensing terms can change over time, so for the most current details it's best to check the developer's page directly before relying on any particular arrangement. The add-on comes from EnnJinn, and its controls sit in Blender's sidebar under the Tool header, keeping the randomization sliders and drop-downs within easy reach while you work.
