Smart Batch Renamer stands out for keeping the whole renaming workflow — select, choose, preview, apply — inside one viewport panel, with a live before/after view so nothing changes until you commit.
Smart Batch Renamer is a lightweight sidebar panel for Blender that renames objects, mesh data, materials and collections in bulk. After installation it appears as a Rename tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar, opened by pressing N, and the entire tool works from that single panel with no pop-ups or separate windows.
It covers a range of naming operations: Find & Replace with plain text or full regex and a case-sensitive toggle, adding or removing prefixes and suffixes, cleaning names by stripping .001-style suffixes and trimming whitespace, sequential numbering with control over base name, start, padding and separator, and case conversion to UPPER, lower, Title or snake_case. A Sync Data Names option sets mesh data-block names to match their parent objects, and Quick Clean strips .001 suffixes from objects, meshes and materials in one button.
Every operation supports a live preview showing a before/after list, with changed names highlighted and unchanged ones dimmed. Your scene stays untouched until you click Apply, and changes support Ctrl+Z undo.
Smart Batch Renamer is best for environment artists naming scenes built from many kitbash parts, game developers applying prefixing rules like SM_, SK_ and MI_ for engine export, and freelancers delivering organized .blend files to clients.
Smart Batch Renamer is completely free to download and use.
Smart Batch Renamer is compatible with Blender 4.0 and newer, so recent Blender releases are supported. The add-on installs from a zip file and appears as a Rename tab in the 3D Viewport sidebar, which you open by pressing N. It has no external dependencies, so once it is installed you can select objects and start renaming without any additional setup or configuration steps.
Smart Batch Renamer ships as smart_batch_renamer.zip and installs directly in Blender the same way as other add-ons. Once enabled, press N in the 3D Viewport to open the sidebar and click the Rename tab, where the entire tool lives with no pop-ups or separate windows. A full user guide is included and can be found under the Documentation tab if you want a reference while learning the operations.
Smart Batch Renamer has no render engine dependency and works with EEVEE, Cycles and Workbench. Because it operates on names rather than on rendering, the render engine you choose does not affect how it functions. You can rename objects, mesh data, materials and collections regardless of your setup, and each operation still shows a live before/after preview before anything is applied to your scene.
Smart Batch Renamer is released under the GPL-2.0-or-later license and is listed as free here in the catalog. For current licensing terms and any distribution details, check the developer's page. The add-on is provided as a single zip file, includes full documentation, and covers renaming for objects, mesh data, materials and collections, all with the live preview and Ctrl+Z undo support built into each operation.
Smart Batch Renamer's Find & Replace operation supports both plain text and full regex, along with a case-sensitive toggle for more control over matches. Beyond Find & Replace, it offers prefix and suffix editing, clean-up of .001-style suffixes and whitespace, sequential numbering with adjustable base name, start, padding and separator, and case conversion to UPPER, lower, Title or snake_case. Every one of these operations runs through the same live preview before you apply it.
