Styriam ICC Image Compressor earns its place in the superhive library by tackling a specific Blender frustration: saved images that look different in other applications. It pairs color-profile handling with optional image compression and GIF export in one add-on.
Images saved in Blender can look different when opened in other programs, especially on a color-calibrated monitor. Styriam ICC Image Compressor addresses this by embedding a display color profile or converting images to sRGB, so files look the same across programs that support color profiles. Color space conversion is available for JPEG and PNG, while ICC profiles can be attached to PNG, JPEG, TIFF, JPEG2000 and WebP.
On Windows, the add-on adds compression through OptiPNG or MozJPEG to reduce image size. You can select objects to compress all of their PNG and JPEG textures, or convert PNG images to optimized JPEGs.
The GIF Export panel exports animations as GIF using PIL or FFMPEG, with the FFMPEG path pointing to an executable installed on your system for better results than PIL. A 'Use existing frames' option controls whether frames are rendered again, and color management features remain available even without Windows.
Styriam Icc Image Compressor is best for blender users on color-calibrated monitors who need saved images to match in other applications, along with image compression and GIF export.
Styriam Icc Image Compressor is completely free to download and use.
Styriam ICC Image Compressor is intended for Blender 3.6.5 or higher. In Blender versions 3.6.0 through 3.6.4, saving ICC profiles in PNG is not supported due to a bug, so those releases are best avoided for that particular workflow. The add-on's release history also notes support for Blender 3.2 and 3.3. If you rely on embedding ICC profiles in PNG files, staying on 3.6.5 or newer keeps that capability working without running into the known PNG saving limitation in the 3.6.0 to 3.6.4 range.
Styriam ICC Image Compressor supports Apple ARM architecture only up to version 1.0.3. Features added after that release are not available to ARM users, so anyone on Apple silicon is limited to the functionality present in 1.0.3 and earlier. If you work on an ARM Mac and need the newer additions, that support is not available in the later versions. Users on other architectures can access the features introduced in subsequent updates as normal, so the ARM restriction applies specifically to Apple silicon machines.
Styriam ICC Image Compressor limits its compression tools to Windows at the moment, using OptiPNG or MozJPEG to reduce image size. If you are on macOS or Linux, those compression options are currently unavailable. You can still use the color management features, including embedding display color profiles and converting images to sRGB, on non-Windows systems. So the color-profile side of the add-on remains accessible regardless of platform, while the size-optimization side depends on running Windows for now.
Styriam ICC Image Compressor can export animations as GIF using either PIL or FFMPEG. The FFMPEG method needs a path to an FFMPEG executable installed on your system, which is not provided with the add-on, but it produces much better results than the PIL method. A 'Use existing frames' checkbox lets you choose whether to render frames again or reuse existing ones, and you can render frames converted to sRGB so the final GIF looks closer to what you see in Blender.
Styriam ICC Image Compressor is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions around use, check the developer's page, since details can change over time. The add-on relies on PIL and pyexiv2, and its FFMPEG-based GIF export additionally requires an FFMPEG executable installed on your system, which is not bundled with the add-on. Those dependencies are worth noting when planning your setup, separate from any licensing considerations you might have.
