Why we like it

Earns its place for a narrow, practical job: carrying the viewport position across workspaces so you don't reset it on every switch. Small at 3.9 KB and requires no special permissions.

What is Synchronize Workspaces?

Synchronize Workspaces is an add-on for Blender by MultLabs that keeps the 3D viewport position between different workspaces. Rather than restoring the viewport each time you move to another workspace, the position carries over as you switch.

You can disable synchronization for specific workspaces, or switch it on and off using a widget. Beyond position, the add-on can also keep your viewport and overlay settings. It synchronizes the biggest 3D View in the workspace, so it targets the largest viewport when more than one is open.

The add-on is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, is 3.9 KB in size, and requires no special permissions. It's released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and version 1.14.0 fixed an issue in orthographic view.

Who is Synchronize Workspaces best for?

Synchronize Workspaces is best for blender users who move between workspaces and want the 3D viewport position preserved instead of reset each time.

How much does Synchronize Workspaces cost?

Synchronize Workspaces is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Synchronize Workspaces work with Blender 4.2?

Synchronize Workspaces is compatible with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, so a current LTS release or later build should run it. The add-on is small at 3.9 KB and requires no special permissions. You can add it by dragging the downloaded file into Blender, or by downloading it and installing from disk through the extensions preferences. If you're on a Blender release older than 4.2, check the developer's page before installing, since compatibility is listed from 4.2 LTS onward.

Can I turn off synchronization for certain workspaces in Synchronize Workspaces?

Synchronize Workspaces lets you disable synchronization for specific workspaces, so you can keep viewport syncing where it helps and leave it off elsewhere. You can also switch synchronization on and off using a widget. By default it keeps the viewport position consistent as you move between workspaces, and it can optionally carry viewport and overlay settings as well. Note that it synchronizes the biggest 3D View in a given workspace rather than every viewport at once.

Which 3D view does Synchronize Workspaces synchronize?

Synchronize Workspaces synchronizes the biggest 3D View in the workspace, so when several viewports are open it targets the largest one. It keeps that view's position consistent as you switch between workspaces, and it can also retain viewport and overlay settings. If you'd rather it not apply to a particular workspace, you can disable synchronization there, or toggle it off with the widget. The behaviour is applied per workspace, giving you control over where syncing is active.

What license is Synchronize Workspaces released under?

Synchronize Workspaces is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. It's listed as free here in the catalog; for current licensing and download details, check the developer's page on the Blender extensions platform. The add-on requires no special permissions, and its version history is published alongside the download, so you can review what each release covers. Version 1.14.0 fixed an issue in orthographic view. For terms that apply to reuse or redistribution, refer to the GPL v3.0 text and the developer's listing.
