Part of the SyncTools DCC family, which can be bought together as the DCC Integration Suite for a discount over buying each plugin individually.
SyncTools Pro for Houdini turns the Houdini-to-Blender round-trip into a Copy/Paste operation. Select your geometry, lights, or cameras, press Ctrl + Shift + C in the source application, switch apps, and press Ctrl + Shift + V in the target. The plugin registers as a shelf tool in Houdini and a sidebar tab in Blender, and transfer runs bidirectionally from the same shortcut. It is aimed at FX artists handing off baked sims to Blender for shading and final render, and at modelers prototyping in Houdini and finishing layout in Blender.
Transfers cover polygon and NURBS geometry, baked keyframe animations, PBR materials with optional Octane sync, and lights and cameras with transforms preserved. OBJ-network parenting and naming are carried across, and automatic unit matching keeps Houdini meter-scale work consistent in Blender. A selective transfer toggle controls which elements come along, and cache auto-clean avoids disk bloat.
It is part of the SyncTools DCC family, whose plugins share a unified data exchange protocol for the same round-trip with Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Rhino, and other supported hosts.
Synctools Pro For Houdini is best for fX artists handing off baked sims to Blender for shading and final render, and modelers prototyping in Houdini and finishing layout in Blender.
Synctools Pro For Houdini is completely free to download and use.
SyncTools Pro for Houdini supports Houdini 19 and newer, and Blender 3.0 and newer. It runs on Windows 10 and 11, macOS 13 and later, and Linux. The plugin registers as a shelf tool inside Houdini and as a sidebar tab inside Blender, so both applications need to be installed to complete a round-trip. Check the developer's page for the current list of tested host versions before installing.
SyncTools Pro for Houdini installs in two parts. For the Houdini side, place the SyncTools .py file into your Houdini scripts directory or load it via the Python shell, then restart Houdini so the Sync Tools shelf becomes available in the shelf bar. For the Blender side, go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons and install the SyncTools .zip. After that the default Ctrl + Shift + C / V hotkeys work across both apps and are remappable in each app's preferences.
SyncTools Pro for Houdini transfers baked keyframe animations and preserves hierarchy by carrying OBJ-network parenting and naming across. Lights and cameras keep their transforms, and automatic unit matching keeps Houdini meter-scale work consistent in Blender. The shared exchange protocol is described as lossless, so animations and hierarchies survive the round-trip. You can also toggle which elements come along, including meshes, materials, lights, cameras, armatures, and baked animations, using the selective transfer option.
SyncTools Pro for Houdini is listed as free in this catalog; check the developer's page for current licensing details. Support is provided through email and ticket support via the Superhive inbox, with a typical 48-hour response, plus a community chat for real-time help. Free lifetime updates are included within the current major version. The plugin is also part of the wider SyncTools DCC family, which can be purchased together as the DCC Integration Suite.
