Why we like it

Takeitposy earns its place in the Blender library as a focused posing tool. It rotates two bones rather than acting as an IK system, and has been tested with rigs including Sky by Blender Studio, VRM, and MIXAMO (with scale applied).

What is Takeitposy?

Takeitposy is a Blender add-on from POWERBLOW built for creating character poses. It requires no prior setup beyond your rig, fitting the target including joint positions with no corrections needed. Rather than locking a bone in place like an IK system, it provides fast posing by rotating two parent-child bones in Pose Mode.

Working in bone local rotations, the add-on aligns the position and orientation of the parent and child bones exactly after rotation, and bone rolls can be freely adjusted for precise control. It respects rotation limit constraints, with options to follow them, ignore the axis order, or ignore them entirely. Rotation values from the rest pose and the current pose can be output to the console for use in scripts or automation.

Version 1.1.2 adds root bone support, mouse control for target movement in the 3D View, and a target snap action to the selected bone tail. It supports Blender 4.2, 4.5, 5.0, and 5.1 on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit).

Who is Takeitposy best for?

Takeitposy is best for blender artists who want to pose two parent-child bones in Pose Mode without complicated rig setup.

How much does Takeitposy cost?

Takeitposy is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions and systems does Takeitposy support?

Takeitposy supports Blender 4.2, 4.5, 5.0, and 5.1, while older versions are not guaranteed to work. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) with an x86_64 Intel or AMD CPU. The add-on will not run on ARM64 Windows systems such as Snapdragon, on macOS with Intel or Apple Silicon, or on Linux. If you are on a supported Blender version and a compatible Windows machine, you can install it through the standard add-on preferences.

How do I install and use Takeitposy in Blender?

Takeitposy installs like a standard Blender add-on. Open Edit, then Preferences, then the Add-ons section, click Install, select the ZIP file, and enable the add-on. Once enabled, select your target armature, switch to Pose Mode, open the TakeItPosy tab in the Sidebar, and enable the View checkbox. Select two bones in a parent-child relationship, adjust the Target position, set the Joint and Roll Controller values, then click Rotate. Disable the View checkbox when you are not using the add-on.

Does Takeitposy work like an IK system?

Takeitposy works by rotating two parent-child bones and does not function as an IK system that holds a bone at a specific location. The result always follows the movement of the armature and its parent bones. For it to work correctly, the parent and child bones must be connected, meaning the tail of the parent matches the head of the child. It works with bone local rotations, supports only the two selected bones, and requires the armature scale to be 1 from the selected bones up to the root.

How does Takeitposy handle rotation limit constraints?

Takeitposy respects rotation limit constraints through three options for the selected bones. On, the default, follows the rotation limit constraints. On no order follows the constraints but ignores the axis order, overwriting the constraint's axis order. Off ignores rotation limit constraints entirely. Rotation limits may include an error of about three degrees, so limits can occasionally be slightly exceeded. If an axis has both Min and Max set to zero, rotation is limited to a plane, so setting a small range allows some movement.

Is Takeitposy free to use?

Takeitposy is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing details, check the developer's page from POWERBLOW. The add-on ships as a ZIP file that you install through Blender's Add-ons preferences. Note that it targets Windows only and specific Blender versions, so confirm your system meets the requirements before downloading. A demo video is also available if you want to see more before installing.
