Why we like it

Text Ops covers Blender versions 3.6 through 4.5 and ships as separate modules, including file tools, text formatting, multi search and an extended clipboard. A demo video is available.

What is Text Ops?

Text Ops by Creative Skipper is an add-on for Blender that builds on the Text Editor with several distinct modules. Its file tools handle working with multiple text blocks: Group Load/Save opens many files with one action and saves changes across all of them at once, a conflict resolution feature reconciles differences between external files and Blender text blocks, and an export function writes all text blocks to a specified directory in one click. It can also add the .txt or .py extension to corresponding files.

The Multi Search module performs search and replace across all open Blender text files. It reports the number of lines and text blocks where results were found, lists each result by text block name, line number and occurrence count, and shows results as an interactive list; selecting a result opens the relevant text block and jumps to the match.

An Extended Clipboard module creates a named clipboard for saving and inserting text data within Blender. The clipboard is saved to disk as a JSON file, so its contents persist independently of the blend scene, and multiple purpose-specific buffers can be created and loaded.

Who is Text Ops best for?

Text Ops is best for blender users who work extensively in the Text Editor and manage multiple text blocks, scripts or templates.

Frequently asked questions

Which Blender versions does Text Ops support?

Text Ops lists compatibility with Blender versions 3.6 through 4.5. If you run a version within that range, the add-on's Text Editor modules, including file tools, text formatting operators, Multi Search and the Extended Clipboard, are intended to work. For any newer or older Blender release outside that range, check the developer's page for the current compatibility details before relying on it in your workflow.

How does the Multi Search feature in Text Ops work?

Text Ops includes a Multi Search module that performs search and replace across all open Blender text files. It can search every open text block and replace text in the current block or globally across all blocks. It displays a count of the lines and the text blocks where matches were found, and lists results by text block name, line number and occurrences. Selecting a result opens the relevant text block and jumps to the found item, and repeated clicks cycle through the findings in a line.

Where is the Extended Clipboard data in Text Ops stored?

Text Ops saves its Extended Clipboard to disk as a JSON file, so the data you enter is stored independently of the blend scene. You can create a named clipboard for saving and inserting text within Blender, build multiple purpose-specific buffers and load them, assign a unique identifier to any entry, and optionally add an increment or timestamp to that identifier. It also counts the words in each saved text block and sorts saved blocks by name.

Is Text Ops free to use?

Text Ops is listed as free in this catalog. It is distributed under the GPL license and is marked as a Dev Fund contributor on its store page. Because licensing and any purchase options can change over time, and different module bundles have been offered, check Creative Skipper's developer page for the current licensing terms and the most up-to-date details before downloading.
