Why we like it

Two Images ships in two identical variants that differ only in UI category: TI in its own category and TI in the image category, offered per customer requests.

What is Two Images?

Two Images, short TI, is a Blender add-on for comparing two images side by side through a slider that can run along the x or y axis. You can compare regular images, render slots, and the viewer output against each other, and switch the compared slot when Render Result is selected. It is accessed in the Image Editor under Menu, Image, Two Images.

The add-on works with different Color Spaces in the Image Settings and most View Transforms, but only with sRGB in the Display Device settings of Color Management. A separate version has been released for ACES users, for example OpenColorIO ACES, focused on comparing render slots. When you change an image's View Transform, you reload it by pressing Comparison or by pressing the render button again.

The interface includes controls to change the axis, position, and the color of the separation line, along with color correction and adjustment options such as Saturation, Value, and Linear interpolation of pixels. A fast selector can replace the image with the Render Result or Viewer. Tested platforms are Windows and Apple Intel.

Who is Two Images best for?

Two Images is best for blender users who want to compare two images, render slots, or viewer output through an on-screen slider.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open Two Images in Blender?

Two Images is accessed from Blender's Image Editor. After selecting an image, go to Menu, then Image, then Two Images to activate the add-on. From there you can pick a second image for comparison, change the axis and position, and adjust the color of the separation line. If you have Render Result selected, you can change the slot to compare different render slots, or a slot against another image. The version 1.0.6 entry point is documented as Image Editor, Menu, Image, Two Images.

Does Two Images work with ACES color management?

Two Images has a separate version released for ACES users, for example OpenColorIO ACES, and its focus is comparing render slots. ACES support from OpenColorIO goes up to version 1.0.5, and a complete installation is required for ACES users. The standard version works with different Color Spaces in the Image Settings and most View Transforms, but only with sRGB in the Display Device settings. For other color spaces you usually only need to adjust Multiply a few notches, and sometimes Gamma and Linear too.

What platforms is Two Images tested on?

Two Images lists Windows and Apple Intel as its tested platforms. The developer recommends using version 1.0.5, but suggests installing the newer 1.0.6 if your PC needs it, since 1.0.6 uses smooth pixel interpolation. Depending on your GPU, the color between the original and the created image can differ minimally, though small adjustments usually help and the difference is often unrecognizable. If you encounter anything anomalous, the developer can be contacted through Discord or the Blender Market contact form.

Is Two Images free to use?

Two Images is listed as free in this catalog. For current licensing terms and any conditions, check the developer's page. The add-on comes in two identical variants that differ only in their UI category, one as a separate category named TI and one placed in the image category, both offered in response to requests from different customers. Documentation is included, and a demo video is available. For feature requests and bug reports you can use the developer's Discord channels or the Blender Market contact form.
