Why we like it

A focused utility that grew out of the developer's own daily use, adding full preset customization on top of the original Unit Switcher.

What is Units?

Units (formerly Unit Switcher) is a Blender add-on that adds a discreet menu for selecting a preset, then adjusting Blender's units and grid snapping settings in a single click. Its snapping settings are optimized for use with the Increment snapping mode.

Every preset is editable in the add-on preferences. You can add, remove, rename and reorder your own presets, with each preset controlling the unit system, length unit, grid scale, unit scale and the Separate Units option. Presets save automatically and persist across Blender sessions, and can be exported or imported as a JSON file to back them up or carry them between machines. A Reset to Defaults option restores the built-in set. Presets that share the same system and length unit are automatically grouped onto one button row to keep the menu compact.

Two optional tool-header extras can be toggled in preferences: the active object's Display Type dropdown (wire / solid / textured) and an Affect Only Origins toggle for moving object origins. The add-on is installed from a downloaded .zip via Blender's Preferences window.

Who is Units best for?

Units is best for blender users who frequently switch between metric and imperial units and grid snapping across projects.

How much does Units cost?

Frequently asked questions

What Blender versions does Units support?

Units is listed as compatible with Blender versions 4.5 through 5.1, and it is a Blender Extension–compatible add-on. It is distributed as an Add-on extension type under the GPL license. If you run a version outside that range, check the developer's page for current compatibility details before installing, since supported versions can change with later releases of the add-on.

How do I install Units in Blender?

Units installs from a downloaded .zip file. Launch Blender and go to Edit > Preferences, then select the Add-ons tab. Click the dropdown in the top-right and choose Install from Disk, then locate the downloaded .zip file and select it. In the Add-ons list, find JD Units and check the box next to it to enable the add-on. Your presets are then editable from the add-on preferences.

Can I move my Units presets between computers?

Units lets you export and import your presets as a JSON file, so you can back them up or carry them between machines. Presets also save automatically and persist across Blender sessions once configured. If you ever want to return to the original configuration, the Reset to Defaults option restores the built-in preset set at any time without affecting your exported JSON backups.

Is Units free to use?

Units is listed as free here in the catalog, and it is released under the GPL license. Licensing terms can change over time, so check the developer's page for the current details before you download. The add-on is also noted as Blender Extension–compatible, so it follows Blender's standard extension installation and enabling process, which you complete through the Preferences window.
