UVO earns a place in the Blender extensions library for concentrating several UV inspection overlays — ID, Intersect, Padding, and Stretch — into a single panel in the UV Editor.
UVO adds a suite of dynamic overlays to Blender's UV Editor. Its ID Overlay color-codes UVs so you can see how they are organized, with Object and Island modes that assign a distinct color per object or per topologically connected UV island. The Intersect Overlay highlights overlapping and stacked islands in real-time, detecting overlaps within a single object and across all objects in Edit Mode at once.
Intersect detection offers a Tiled mode, which folds all UV tiles into (0,1) before detection to find overlaps between islands in different tiles that share the same texel space, and a UDIM mode that treats each tile independently. Intersecting islands are shown with hatching, perfectly stacked islands with cross-hatching, and overlapping areas with red fill. The Padding Overlay visualizes the padding zone around each island and flags potential mipmap bleed.
The Stretch Overlay visualizes texel density deviation from a target value using a warped checker grid and a color heatmap. Additional features include per-object texture resolution and texel density settings, an eyedropper tool to sample density from selected UV islands, and correct visualization for non-square textures.
UVO is best for blender artists working in the UV Editor who want to spot overlaps, padding issues, and texel density stretching before textures are applied.
UVO is completely free to download and use.
UVO requires Blender 4.2 LTS or newer, so version 4.2 is supported. The current release, version 1.2.4, was updated in 2026 and lists Blender 4.2 LTS and newer as its compatibility range. If you are running an older build of Blender, you will need to upgrade before the add-on can be enabled. Always check the developer's GitHub page for the latest release and any compatibility notes tied to newer Blender versions.
UVO installs like a standard Blender add-on. Download the latest release .zip from the Releases page, then in Blender go to Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → Install from Disk and select the downloaded .zip. Enable "UVO - UV Overlays" in the add-on list. On the Blender extensions platform you can also drag and drop the file into Blender, or download and install from disk. Once enabled, enter Edit Mode, open the UV Editor, and use the UVO button in the tool header to open the overlay panel.
UVO works from within the UV Editor. Enter Edit Mode on a mesh, open the UV Editor, and make sure Overlays are enabled in the UV Editor header. Click the UVO button in the tool header on the right side to open the overlay panel. From there you can enable any combination of the ID, Intersect, Padding, and Stretch overlays. Each overlay updates dynamically, and additional controls include per-object texture resolution, texel density settings, and an eyedropper tool for sampling density from selected UV islands.
UVO is listed as free in this catalog. It is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, as stated on the developer's GitHub page. The extension does not require special permissions. For the most current licensing terms and source code, refer to the developer's GitHub repository, where the LICENSE file and release history are maintained. Because it is GPL-licensed, you can review the Python source directly in the repository alongside the packaged releases.
