Variation System earns its place for keeping material variation swapping, .fbx export, and variant transfer between objects in one Sidebar panel inside Blender.
Variation System is a Blender addon from Budo3D built around material management. It lets you swap between different material setups on a single object for comparing looks and styles, with controls for adding, applying, and deleting variations from within Blender's Sidebar. Each material variation is clearly labeled.
The addon can apply variants as materials, assigning each variation to random faces of your mesh so you can export an .fbx file with all materials intact, ready for game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine, provided the mesh has enough faces. A Quick Export option writes the .fbx using a projectName_selectedObject.fbx naming format.
You can copy and paste variant collections from one object onto another; following its updates this adds new rows rather than overwriting an existing collection. Variation System can also gather all assigned materials from an object as variants, and it stays backward compatible with previous addon versions. A demo video is available.
Variation System is best for designers and animators who work with multiple material variations in Blender.
Variation System is completely free to download and use.
Variation System lists support for Blender versions 4.0 through 5.1, so it covers Blender 4.0 and later releases within that range. It runs from within Blender's Sidebar, where you add, apply, and delete material variations on your objects. If you are on a version outside the stated 4.0 to 5.1 range, check the developer's page before installing to confirm compatibility, since that range is the reference point for which builds the addon targets.
Variation System includes an Apply Variants as Materials function that assigns each of your variant materials to random faces of the mesh, then lets you export an .fbx file with all materials intact, a format ready to import into game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine. This works as long as the mesh has enough faces. The Quick Export option writes the file using a projectName_selectedObject.fbx naming format, keeping the export step inside your Blender workflow.
Variation System lets you copy a variant collection from one object and paste it onto another. Following its updates, the paste behaviour no longer overwrites an existing variant collection on the target object; instead it adds new rows to it. The addon can also gather all assigned materials from an object as variants, and it stays backward compatible with previous addon versions, so collections built in earlier versions continue to work.
Variation System is listed as free here in our catalog. Licensing and pricing can change over time, so for the current terms it's best to check Budo3D's developer page directly. The addon is distributed under the GPL license. You work with it entirely through Blender's Sidebar, using its controls to add, apply, and delete material variations on your objects and to manage variant collections.
