Why we like it

Wear N' Tear earns its place in the superhive library for letting you erode whole walls without separating the bricks or stones, then restore any object to its original state as many times as you like.

What is Wear N' Tear?

Wear N' Tear is a Blender add-on from Sahin Ersoz for eroding models to give them a used, worn-out feel. You activate it by pressing F9, then pick Wear N' Tear HP for a realistic result or Wear N' Tear LP for a stylized look. Models can be eroded one at a time or several at once through multi-select.

Entire walls process at once, with no need to separate the bricks, stones or any part, and the add-on gives a fast real-time response. Models can be restored in whole or partially, down to a loose part, back to their original state as many times as needed, so there is no need to work non-destructively. Beyond erosion, you can cut cracks, cut parts off, add scratches, rip, tear and shred.

The Pro features add mortar between stones or bricks and cover models with plaster, which can also build landscapes. A newer addition brings procedural textures. Practice scenes with step-by-step instructions and documentation are included, and a demo video is available.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wear N' Tear work with Blender 4.2 and earlier?

Wear N' Tear ships in two builds so it covers different Blender versions. Version 2.1.1c targets Blender 4.3 and later, while version 2.0.0g_R covers Blender 4.2 and earlier, so it runs on both newer and older releases. Pick the build that matches your Blender version before you install, then activate the add-on by pressing F9. Practice scenes with step-by-step instructions are included to help you get started, and you can check the developer's page to confirm the current details before you download.

How do I activate Wear N' Tear after installing it?

Wear N' Tear is activated by pressing F9. From there you select Wear N' Tear HP for a realistic result or Wear N' Tear LP for a stylized look, then start eroding your model. You can work on a single object or select several objects and process them at the same time. Practice scenes with step-by-step instructions are included to walk you through the process, and a demo video is available.

What's the difference between Wear N' Tear HP and LP?

Wear N' Tear HP is the realistic option and lets you choose between many textures, add cavities, and transform textures by translate, rotate and scale. Wear N' Tear LP produces a stylized look built around edge damage, and it can process multiple parts in a single object as if they were separate objects. The LP option can achieve many different looks by adjusting the sliders, though its defaults are usable as-is. Choose HP for realism or LP for the stylized treatment.

Can Wear N' Tear add mortar and plaster?

Wear N' Tear adds mortar between stones or bricks and covers models with plaster through its Pro features. Plaster detects mortar automatically if it is present, and it can also be used to create landscapes. Alongside these, you can cut cracks, cut parts off, add scratches, rip, tear and shred, then restore any object in whole or partially to its original state as many times as needed. See the developer's page for how the Pro features are provided.

Is Wear N' Tear free to use?

Wear N' Tear is listed as free in this catalog. Licensing and any paid tiers can change over time, and some capabilities such as mortar and plaster are described as Pro features, so check the developer's page for the current terms before you rely on a particular option. The download there also indicates which build applies to your Blender version, whether you are on Blender 4.3 and later or 4.2 and earlier.
