Why we like it

Wheel-O-Matic earns its place in the Blender extensions library for handling wheel rotation entirely through drivers, keeping the setup additive and non-destructive across meshes, bones, and curves.

What is Wheel-O-Matic?

Wheel-O-Matic is a Blender add-on that automates the rotation of any wheel in any direction. It works with standalone wheels, wheels on vehicles, bone-driven wheels, wheels on curves, and vehicles on curves, covering both meshes and bones. The automation runs on drivers, so there is no need to bake or simulate, and it stays additive and non-destructive, leaving wheels free to be animated by hand.

The add-on lives in the 3D View sidebar. You select the wheels to automate and click Automate to apply the setup; if a wheel has no parent, a controller is created, and locators are added at the base of each wheel to help confirm the setup. The Adjust panel provides Rotation power, where negative values spin the wheel in reverse, and Radius, both of which can be keyed.

A Utilities panel adds tools to clear auto rotation, remove automation, toggle and scale locators, remove stray data, and refresh wheel logic. Wheel-O-Matic is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and requires no special permissions.

Who is Wheel-O-Matic best for?

Wheel-O-Matic is best for blender artists rigging or animating wheels on vehicles, curves, and bone-driven setups who want automatic, driver-based rotation without baking or simulation.

How much does Wheel-O-Matic cost?

Wheel-O-Matic is completely free to download and use.

Frequently asked questions

Does Wheel-O-Matic work with Blender 4.2 and newer?

Wheel-O-Matic lists compatibility with Blender 4.2 LTS and newer, where it installs as an extension through Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions. Its documentation notes the tool also runs on Blender 3.0 and above, installing as a regular add-on for Blender 3.0 through 4.1 and as an extension from 4.2 onward. Version 1.0.2 addresses Blender 5.0 by fixing an issue where wheel locators were not showing up. For the current version and the releases it supports, check the developer's page.

How do I install Wheel-O-Matic in Blender?

Wheel-O-Matic installs like any other Blender add-on or extension. On Blender 4.2 and above you can find it in the extensions preferences panel under Edit > Preferences > Get Extensions, or download it from the developer's GitHub page and install from disk. Once installed, Wheel-O-Matic appears in the 3D View sidebar under its own tab. From there you select the wheels to automate and click Automate to apply the setup.

Does Wheel-O-Matic need to bake or simulate wheel rotation?

Wheel-O-Matic does not require baking or simulation. Its automation is handled entirely with drivers, which keeps the result additive and non-destructive, so wheels can still be animated by hand. Setup is applied by selecting the wheels and clicking Automate, and it can be tuned or removed afterward. The Adjust panel exposes Rotation power, where negative values spin the wheel in reverse, along with Radius, both of which can be keyed as needed.

Is Wheel-O-Matic free, and what license does it use?

Wheel-O-Matic is listed as free here and is distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The extension also states that it does not require any special permissions. Its full source is available on GitHub, along with written documentation and getting-started videos, and support is offered through a Blender Artists thread and a GitHub issue tracker for reporting problems. For the most current licensing terms and download details, visit the developer's page.
