Bl2Sp2Bl earns its place in the Superhive library as a Windows bridge between Blender and Substance Painter, with an update history spanning Blender 2.80 through 5.1+.
Bl2Sp2Bl, developed by PJ PENG, connects Blender and Substance Painter through a two-part addon. The Bl2SP part installs into Blender to reach Substance Painter, while the SP2Blender part installs into Substance Painter's plugins folder to reach back into Blender. Together they aim to make moving work between the two applications quick and efficient.
On the Blender side you can export meshes to Substance Painter, sync materials, sync mesh changes, change the HDRI, and connect Blender and Substance Painter project files. A layer effect uses the Base Color, Opacity and Emission channels in Substance Painter. The addon supports Principled BSDF mode, an 'Only Export Collection' mode and sub-collections, and it can use the Unreal Engine 4 SSS (Packed) preset or your own export texture preset.
Bl2Sp2Bl supports the Windows platform, with compatibility reaching Blender 5.1+ and Substance 2026 (Version 12+) and an update history going back to Blender 2.80. A 2026 update simplified the installation process and added automatic baking in Substance Painter. A demo video is available.
Bl2Sp2Bl(Blender Connect Substance Painter) is best for blender and Substance Painter users on Windows who want to move meshes and materials between the two applications.
Bl2Sp2Bl(Blender Connect Substance Painter) is completely free to download and use.
Bl2Sp2Bl supports the Windows platform only, so Mac and Linux are not covered. The addon comes in two parts: Bl2SP installs into Blender, and SP2Blender installs into Substance Painter's plugins folder, with both sides set up on Windows. When configuring, you point Bl2SP to your Substance Painter executable path and SP2Blender to your blender.exe path so the two applications can connect. For current platform details, check the developer's page.
Bl2Sp2Bl has a long update history on the Blender side, with support reaching Blender 5.1+ and going back through 4.3, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0 and earlier releases down to Blender 2.80. On the Substance Painter side it supports Substance 2026 (Version 12+) and earlier releases including Adobe Substance 3D Painter 2024 (10.1), 2023 and 2022. If you rely on a specific version, the developer's page lists the full compatibility timeline.
Bl2Sp2Bl installs in two parts. For the Blender side, open User Preferences, go to Add-ons, choose Install Add-on from File, select the Bl2SP zip, and save your user settings; pressing N in the 3D view then shows the BL2SP panel where you set the Substance Painter executable path. For Substance Painter, copy the SP2Blender folder into the Plugins folder, reload the plugins folder, then use the configure option to set your blender.exe path. A 2026 update simplified the installation process.
Bl2Sp2Bl is listed as free in this catalog. Pricing and licensing can change over time, so for the current terms it's best to check the developer's page directly. The plugin is distributed by PJ PENG, who also offers related addons including ZB2SP and SP2Mar within a workflow that spans ZBrush, Substance Painter, Blender and Marmoset Toolbag. A demo video is also available if you want to see more before downloading.
