Earns its place in the superhive catalog by giving Blender a set-style approach to edge management, with weights stored per group so bevel and marking work stays non-destructive.
Blender handles individual edges well but has no built-in way to manage groups of them the way some other software does with sets. The Blender Edge Groups Addon fills that gap, giving you a place to organize your bevel, subdivision, and edge marking work. You can create as many edge groups as you want across any number of objects, then change bevel weights, crease values, and mark sharp edges or seams from within those groups.
Because weights are stored in the groups themselves, the workflow stays non-destructive, and edges can be added to or removed from any group as a model changes.
Version 1.2 accounts for a change in how Blender stores bevel weights and creases from 4.0.2 onward, where they became attribute data. The addon handles both Blender 3.6 and anything newer than 4.0.2, with nothing changing from the user interface side. It ships with documentation, is released under the MIT license, and a demo video walking through a subdivision workflow is available.
Blender Edge Groups Addon is best for modelers working with bevel, subdivision, and edge marking who want to organize those edges into reusable groups.
Blender Edge Groups Addon is completely free to download and use.
Blender Edge Groups Addon lists compatibility with Blender 4.0 and 3.6. Version 1.2 was updated to handle a change introduced in Blender 4.0.2, where bevel weights and creases began storing as attribute data under the hood. The addon works with Blender 3.6 and anything newer than 4.0.2, including 4.0.2 itself, and the developer notes that nothing changes from the user interface perspective across those versions. Check the developer's page for the latest supported releases.
Blender Edge Groups Addon is released under the MIT license, one of the more permissive open-source licenses. It is listed as free here in the catalog, so for current licensing terms and any purchase details, head to the developer's page. On the functional side, the addon lets you build edge groups across multiple objects and store bevel weights and crease values within them, keeping your subdivision and marking workflow non-destructive.
Blender Edge Groups Addon stores bevel weights inside the edge groups themselves, so your bevel and crease values live with the group rather than being applied and lost. You can add edges to or remove them from any group as a model changes, and set up as many groups as you need across any number of objects. This lets you revisit and adjust those values later instead of redoing the steps by hand.
Blender Edge Groups Addon has a demo video available that walks through using it for a subdivision workflow model. Beyond the video, the addon ships with documentation. Together these cover setting up edge groups, adjusting bevel weights and crease values, marking sharp edges and seams, and adding or removing edges from a group. Check the developer's page for the video link and the documentation to get started.
